Do you have a particular set of fonts or an overall visual theme you are going for? I would like to help if possible, but a little more direction would be great.

For example, if you could make a list of the sizes you need for the different banners, along with what info you need on each banner...

Or if you got a few good graphics, do you have people who can format them for you?

I would suggest that you put together a brief itemized list of the features you're planning on implementing for the site, such as the realtime activism map you mentioned. This may help you get more participation in general.

As far as the 21st goes, that's really soon... And I wouldn't count on the 12-21-12 vibe doing anything to make your site go viral. What you really need is for it to offer features and functions that are unique, helpful and enlightening. You sound like you're pushing in the right direction, but in my experience (I run a number of online ventures) mostly it's a game of inches, so don't get discouraged if it takes a minute to get established.

With any luck, though, it should be a good looking site.

The 21st! Ow! I think you need to spend far more time to get all this done. 3 days is nowhere enough, even to start the collaboration effort off. I would say I build CSS fast after 10 years of doing it pretty much every day and wouldn't be able to do what you are trying to do and produce something bulletproof. The smallest sites I deal with take at minimum a month to do design/HTML/CSS/JS/CMS work from a brief being presented and in reality that is rare. Don't rush things, there is very little to gain from rushing except headaches further down the line.
