The first time I smoked DMT I only took one big pull and held it around 15 seconds. I felt it coming and it scared me how quickly it was taking over. I could have held it much longer (I have leather lungs). Anyway I saw open eyed visual patterns everywhere in my living room. One thing I was really wondering about, were the serpents~snakes I saw repeatedly on my Persian carpet my first five times. They were moving in at least three separate ways, and there was a distinct meaning to their movement, like a language I once knew but had forgotten long ago. I bent over to take a closer look at them and noticed that I couldn't see any of their heads. There were several of them and as I focused in on them they rose up three dimensionally out of the carpet. Their scales were moving at one speed and the geometrical shapes outlined with lines of thin glowing colors that were also moving at a different speed and direction. They were also intertwined wreathing in multi-directional patterns. I believe they were not just a hallucination, but actually exist in some dimension other than the one we normally exist in.
I began researching shamanism and found many ancient depictions of serpents. Do any of you know anything about these beautiful creatures. I would really like to know more about them since they're probably hanging out in my living room this instant. Just can't see them in this state of consciousness. Smiles

Smile Reading this gave me a big smile, thanks. I've seen exactly the same like you're talking about, they were covering the ground in this instance also. Last couple trips I paid little attention the ground, but my first time smoked EVER I remember the snakes very clearly. I told my friend sitting outside with me "the ground is made of snakes". He also was smoking, but told me he was focused on a squirrel...Smile

Daedaloops posted a very lovely headless DMT snake animation here:

I personally have not had visions that I would specifically identify as snakes, although that writhing movement sure sounds familiar. What I will say is that any time I take DMT, including sub-breakthrough doses, my visuals seem to be made of pure language. The language need not be familiar in the learned sense because its meaning is perceived directly, without the need to read and interpret.

I am under the impression that these visuals are a graphic encoding of the inside of your mind (which possibly extends outside of your skull), and on that level they do exist in a different dimension and are only visible while in an elevated state.

And I can completely relate to backing down after the first hit... The spice can be intimidating stuff.

According to world renown mythologist, Joseph Campbell used to say that snakes are a common symbol of the death/rebirth (transformation) motif as they shed their skin.

The first time I shared changa with my friend, she had an encounter with a female snake entity. She said every time she would start to get scared, the snake would rattle her tale at her, as if to say "No! Don't get scared!"

It is interesting that certain animals/motifs appear way more often than others. I have never heard of anyone seeing dog entities, for example. It's mostly animals that have bigger roles in mythology and religion (snakes, elephants, etc.)

Yes, I've seen anacondas, and lions are probably the most common animal entity I encounter and often are associated with Egyptian imagery (for me). But you're right, certain animals seem to be more frequently represented and accounted for than other animals. I've seen a horse once. I don't know of any mythological implications of horses.

I don't know about that, some things do seem more common than others that's true, but it seems like ANYTHING is possible. Very happy I was actually reading a trip report here just yesterday, where the guy said he saw a lady walking a poodle while in hyperspace, which then stood up and turned into a "bipedal meat tube" or something.

Actually, there are many. Horses usually represent freedom, nobility, and wisdom, but they have had all kinds of important roles. For example, the horses that several ancient cultures believed pulled the sun across the sky. Or Odin's 8 legged horse Slepinir. Or Pegasus, who was a child of Posideon, and therefore a demigod himself. Or Hayagriva, the horse-headed incarnation of Vishnu in hinduism, who is still worshipped today. This probably isn't the place to get into it too deep, but it's sort of a fascination of mine, maybe I'll start another thread about it sometime. Big grin

The serpent has been a recurring symbol through many civilisations for thousands of years. The depiction of the serpent eating its own tail (the Ouroboros) has been depicted in Egyptian, Chinese and Norse mythology to name but a few. A depiction of the cyclical nature of life perhaps? It's a fascinating topic that this symbol has held importance for many cultures over the ages
