SWIM is new to chemistry and is hoping to have a few questions cleared up. He has read so many teks his head is spinning and he is just a bit confused.

If he were to have extracted a small amount of waxy resin using a D-Limonene and vinegar tek the wax would contain goodies as an acetate, correct? And this acetate would be a salt and so orally active with a MAOI but not smokable as is?

He could then create the freebase through a few minutes of very slight heating and combine this with appropriate herbs to create a smokable mixture. He says this has worked for him once. His understanding is that it is not very efficient though, and he doesn't have a very fine ability to control oven temperatures at that range so is worried about burning up the goods. His second attempts at this did not produce nearly as vivid results as his first, so he is hoping for a more reliable approach.

Here is where he is confused:

It seems many of the Changa processes simply dissolve this acetate into leaf, but his understanding is that the salt is not smokable, or is this incorrect?

From what he has read he understands one way to refine this product would be to dissolve in warmed naptha and then freeze the naptha and filter for the crystals.

Are these crystals still a salt? Would they be vape or smokable? Is there some further conversion needed to get the free base after drying the vinegar to the waxy resin?

BTW, he did heat the wax hoping to convert it to the base and found it to be active at least at a threshold level when smoked w/ B Caapi leaf. So he thinks he could have crystallized as above, but is looking for a bit more clarity about the whole process.

The simple version of the question is, how to easily handle/convert the wax or goo into smokable product?

Thanks for any info to help clear this up for him.

That does produce acetate, which is smokeable (it breaks down and produces freebase when heating) although smoking freebase seems to be preferred. It is a smaller molecule, so you need a smaller amount and the vaporization process is more direct.

Both acetate and freebase can be orally active, only the dose varies.

See above. Generally freebase is used for changa.

You can refine freebase through recrystallization in naphtha, but not acetate. Acetate is a salt and it's not soluble in non-polar solvents.

For converting acetate to freebase you need another basification process with for instance sodium carbonate. Check the freebase conversion in Amor Fati.

I am also new to this, but since no-one else is offering you help yet, I'll chime in.

Step six of the BLAB tek should be helpful.

What I've done is take the goo, add some washing soda and water to make a paste, dry the paste, dissolve this in hot ethanol filter, dry the freebased material....I've used different bases, different solvents here, but can't say yet which I ultimately prefer. This added step of actually freebasing the material can leave you a more solid material, though it may stay waxy of even gooey.

Don't dry out your goo on a stove top. Better to use a toaster oven at low-heat like 100 degrees fahrenheit with the door of the oven open.

EDIT oh I didn't see Vodsel's response. What he said sounds good too.

I appreciate your perspective.

Thanks for the help.

Up until recently he has been thinking of these processes sort of as recipes, paying attention mainly to the volumes of materials needed. He is still trying to wrap his mind around this in terms of polarity, ions, and how things actually transform through the processes. It is a different way to think, but it is starting to make sense.

He is glad he waited before trying to get crystals from the salt, as it seems he would have been disappointed. Rolling eyes

Vodsel the tek you linked calls for "DMT fumarate or even other salts" Is it safe to assume it would work with this acetate product?

Yes, acetate is included in these "other salts" mentioned... just messier to deal with. You can basify acetate with sodium carbonate.

I take my goo/leftovers from Re-x'ing and dissolve in fumaric acid water for a tincture. just leave goo in FASW for a few days, filter through cotton, and keep for quick level ups. I dont like to let spice go to waste, so its a good little trick for me. Since dosage is unknown, it is used for a quick booster when an oral dose is not as intense as i wish, or i want to extend it.
