El Topo by Jodorowsky is the best movie I have ever seen. It works on infinite levels and is best seen while in a "mystical" state.
Too much perfection is a mistake.

I've been meaning to watch El Topo for ages! Haha Holy Mountain looks awesome too!
Couldn't find Daisies on IMDB, does it have any other names?

The Life Aquatic is my favourite film.
Everything I write is fictional roleplay. Obviously! End tribal genocide: www.survival-international.org Quick petitions for meaningful change: www.avaaz.org/en/
End prohibition: www.leap.cc www.tdpf.org.uk And "Feeling Good" by David D.Burns MD is a very useful book.

I don't mean to be an asshole, but I gotta state it bluntly. The Life Aquatic, sucked.

Have You seen it? Wat do You think about it?

Seen it on TV and I was Shocked. So much psychedelia...

Yeah, I've seen it. It captured me from the very beginning, it's quite psychedelic. But I got tired after the first half of the movie, when I got used to the movie's pecliar effects and plot.

Still however it is a great movie!

The Life Aquatic is my favourite film.

That's my personal favorite among Wes Andersen's films, and I do so love his films.

I've been meaning to get into Tarkovsky ever since I saw the American version of "Solaris."

I'm definitely looking forward to checking out Sedmikrásky (aka Daisies).

If you like Jodorowsky, check out Kenneth Anger and Fellini.

I like just about everything from John Carpenter and Luc Besson.

My favorite is The Thing.
But Luc Bessons films always bring a smile to my face.
Subway, Leon, Fifth Element, Big Blue, Angel-A, Le Femme Nikita
That is not dead which can eternal lie.
And with strange aeons even death may die.

Not really the best movie ever, but I just watched Pixar's Wall-E and it was great. Very trippy.

I appreciate movies that combine humor, emotion and intelligence like Shakespeare did. So you can sit back and just enjoy the show, but there is a deeper layer if you're mature enough to spot it. I also like well-done animated movies and Pixar along with Studio Ghibli are best in the field.

I think there was little more to the story than just that.. but trippiness is in the eye of the beholder..

Actually, imo the best movie ever is Ingmar Bergman's Smultronstället, known as Wild Strawberries among the English-speaking.

Is this the one where the dude plays chess with death?

I like it a lot, its amongst my favourites too, but somehow the fountain was even more impressive for me (both very different of course).

That's Seventh Seal, another famous Bergman film.

I stopped watching the Fountain after first few minutes, because I couldn't stand the acting. May have to try again some other day... Aronofsky's Pi on the other hand is one of my old favorites.

funny, I usually would remember such films, but when looking at the synopsis of the wild strawberries, it sounds very familiar but I am not sure if I watched it or not.. I must have...

Btw, another quite interesting movie in this more alternative old style is 'Stalker' by tarkovsky

and yes, do stand the acting of the fountain, it will pay off with many deep thoughts, it leaves a strong after-feeling. Smile

Tarkovsky's Andrei Rublev is very important film to me. After that I wanted to, and did see every other film of his. Then there is Bresson, and "The condemned has escaped" (can't remember what the English name is, but that is what it roughly translates to). Add to this Bergman's Wild Strawberries, and here is the highest triumvirate of films.

Yesterday we saw Mike Leigh's "Happy-go-lucky", and I recommend it heartily. It made me feel really good and a bit sad and thoughtful at the same time. The acting was so good, that it felt like no acting.

Ive never seen andrei rublev from tarkovsky, will check that one out.. Also had never heard of this bresson film, just saw on IMDB and seems interesting! thanks for the tip.

Will check this mike leigh film also.. Did you see this new woody allen movie? Im not usually a fan of his films, they are too neurotic for my taste, but the acting on this one was very good, quite realistic and interesting story. Allen seems to understand woman quite well.

btw, another recommendation still in the line of old movies: The exterminating angel, by buñuel. Do check this out! Smile

Yes, I am looking forward to see Woody's latest. Penelope Cruz, woaah!Smile Actually I rate very highly these "serious" "British" movies (Match Point and Cassandra's Dream) he has been making lately - though I like his comedies of course.

Bunuel is great too, and very mysterious one. Have you seen his "La Voie Lactee" (Milky way). Now there's a trippy one..
