I have a quick question about extraction of harmalas from B. caapi

This is in reference to this tek: https://wiki.dmt-nexus.m...lkaloid_Extraction_Guide , specifically the washing steps to remove NaOH.

It seems like it would be much more convenient to add the vine to basic water, then extract into a nonpolar solvent, and finally add acidic water to get the harmala salts.

Basically, go about it the same way as a mescaline extraction since the salt is desired.

Any reason why most extractions of harmalas from caapi go about it in a similar manner as the one above?

Thanks in advance for any insight.
