Are our enlightenments and countless realizations on psychedelics true? Or are the critics right, that in our state of psychosis-mimicking mind we make connections and realizations that are truly illogical and pointless. I believe both. When under the influence of hallucinogens the realizations we perceive about our world are simply arisen by a completely new outlook on our life, body, and the world. But I sometimes also have completely irrelevant revelations, that while on hallucinogens seem the answer to everything ie. water is the purest substance, mirrors and windows are similar, and the random ones like " DMT tastes like how the old navy store smells! Exactly how it smells. I figured it out! You feel enlightened even when some revelations are very random indeed.

As you said, both possibilities are there. I think we can be deluded during psychedelic experiences (and in normal life too!), but there are definitely long lasting realizations and ideas that can appear during a psychedelic experience. In the end, it's all up to you and the very important process of integration . What do you bring back from your travels, that can help you or others? Not all experiences have to or should turn into something productive in a measurable way, but it's important to keep a healthy balance in mind.

Psychedelics provide a novel perspective; what you do with that new view on life is up to you.
One thing that happens in the brain during these heightened states is that our normal process of filtering things according to significance becomes temporarily supressed. For example, under normal circumstances our own children are the most significant, while other children are less so, etc. With this filter disabled, even a cluster of soap bubbles can become the most astonishingly important thing ever. This kind of state of wide- open wonder can allow us to see far deeper into things than we are normally inclined, and indeed can reveal deep real significance. It can also leave us with some pretty screwy ideas (Jerry Garcia is God!).
As Endlessness mentioned, it's all about integration. This is the process where we take our great psychedelic revelations and hold them up next to our everyday common sense and try reconciling them over a period of months, years, decades. It's actually a lifelong process.

"Reality is a Rorschach ink blot my friend." -Alan Watts Meditate before you venture, take it seriously, use it as medicinal—it is good psychotherapy if needed. Realize that you, the Earth, others, and the Universe are all one and the same process. Then take that knowledge back to become, as you already are, one with nature. Eternity in every moment. Divinity in every particle. All is one organism.
