I am trying to do a recrystallization, the one described in nomans tek.

So i liquified 1 gramm of DMT in a hot water bath (using a shot glass), then added 25-30ml of warm naphtha until all the spice was properly dissolved. I noticed alot of impurities collecting at the bottom of the glass after it was cooled down to room temperature. Would it be a good idea to seperate (pipette) the naphtha into another shotglass at this point? I dont really like the idea of having the crystals & the impurities in one container.. Would this result in pure crystals or are there more impurities in the naphtha at room temp?

I guess i dont fully understand this process.

Some hints would be nice.

Thanks! Smile

Yes...The whole point of Re-X ing is to separate the oils/impurities from the saturated Naphtha.
Suck out/pour off the Nap into a clean glass (wide bottom is easier to scrape later) and leave the gunk behind...
Leave to room temp and then freeze over night (tin foil lid is fine)
In the morning you should have a pile of clean spice...pour off the Nap and Dry Fully...!
with a fan if you have one...

Here is a 1g Re-x Dried...

Cool..Good Luck...
You might find that the depth of Xtals will need a fair bit of drying to get rid of all the solvent...mine was around 20/30mins of a fan blowing into the glass on its side from about 2 feet away.
If you have no fan then leave by an open window, probably all day. Very happy

Cant i just drop the wet crystals onto a coffee-filter for instant drying? This worked quite well so far after extracting/freeze precipitating. I scrape up some crystals with a razor blade, then quickly touch the coffeefilter with the edge of the blade so all the solvent is absorbed by the filter. (crystals wont redissolve much this way)

If there is any solvent remaining (even if you cant see it), the crystals will want to Re-dissolve into it at room temp...
So evapping the solvent as quick as possible after the freeze is key..

A coffee filter may absorb some of the wetness but not all..

A hair dryer would work from a distance (not too hot though)

Okay, i will stick to proper evaporation as you suggested. Will have to clean my fan first though Smile

Thanks again.

Just to be clear...
After the freeze...Pour off all the naphtha (re-use if you want) and leave the glass upside down for 5 mins to drain...Then fan dry the crystals...(don't blow them away though)Big grin

Yes i understand. I even put the dish back into the freezer for a few minutes (first normally then upside down), when i did my first extraction.

Putting the dish upside down in the fridge would be okay?

If you want bigger shards I recommend using a shot glass to slowly evaporate the solvent over a period of a few days....a lot easier to work with....all you have to do is just touch the big clump of x-tals with a blade and they will all come out in one big piece....then simply chop it up to allow to fully dry...again so much easier to work with than powder and the big shards of crystals is what we're after right?

Just a helpfull tip that i use is i gently (very gently) heat the spice in a vile i have that is very wide untill it completely melts and then i throw it in the freezer at an angle and BAM! REMad then i simply scoop it up and put it in my regular vile, That's if you'r already happy with you'r final results makes it so you don't have to go through all that naptha washing nonsense.
