So i have had a difference of opinion with a friend about the sun rise.
And my internet is so slow i thought i would ask my friends here for their knowledge, as also the search feature appears to not have coverage of this topic.


Does the Sun ALWAYS rise at the same point in the sky year round.

So if i watch the sun rise from the roof of my house, will it always rise at that point?

and take the same route across the sky?

The Sun does not move - You move. The Earth rotates around the Sun and b/c of minute variations never takes the exact same path. Nothing is static in the Universe.

Just curious, why do you ask?

If you look at the sun rise from the same point of view every morning, it will look like it is rising from the same spot. But over time it will change due to the seasons. Plus depending on where you are on the earth. Here in Canada the summer it is very high in the center of our sky during midday. But in the winter it is very low in midday.

I really like google for its wealth of information. Please research your ideas and questions on google, as it will teach you many things. Note that did not research my information about the sunrise on google, but you can if you like!

Depending on your part of the world, as it's already been said.

But no, in Central Canada, our daylight in winter is alot shorter than it is in summer, you can watch the sun slowly move accross the horizon as the year progresses, as the seasons change.

. I notice as we reach the summer solstice here in Oregon the sun seems to at least end up setting more towards the north than in the winter months. Granted, I'm rarely up early enough to watch the sun rise, but I imagine in the winter months in the northern hemisphere it'd be closer to the equator.

My brother and a good mate, the magic three; are planning our first guerrilla grow for summer, it is now winter and we were trying to pick a spot, and we were wondering about the path of the sun - Winter to Summer - if it would cross the same path over our patch winter compared to summer.

If you stand in the same spot every morning and watch the sun rise you will see it rise from a different point every morning. At winter solstice it's at the southernmost point; at summer solstice, the northernmost. (in the northern hemisphere, at any rate). This is due to the fact that the Earth is tilted on its axis, and as it spends the year moving around the sun, its apparent position in the sky is affected by this tilt. If the sun always rose and set at the same point, we would have no seasons!
