Does anyone know if it is A. legal and B. possible to grow Iboga in the Peruvian rainforest? I understand that in Gabon it grows actually inside the rainforest, so must be ok with competition for food and light. If it is possible and legal, does anyone have any ideas where to buy good seeds at reasonable prices? many thanks.

Not too sure about legality, however I seem to recall reading about some Peruvian shamanic retreats using it. PM Kambogahuasca (I think it was him, sorry, my mind is a little hazy today!), he is keen to give free seeds to people willing and able to grow in tropical climbs due to its endangered status in its natural habitat. Thanks Purges, I am going to Peru later this month to look at land on which to establish a healing retreat near to Cusco. I am aware of the dire situation with Iboga in it's natural habitat and want to cultivate it in Peru if possible to help relieve the stress on the Gabonese resource. Unfortunately I have no real experience with growing anything on a commercial scale, but the land I am looking at is some 400+ acres of rainforest and as I understand that in it's natural habitat it grows actually in amongst the rainforest I thought it may be possible to start some reasonable sized cultivation there without having to clear any of the pristine forest on the land, if anyone knows more about this, again any advice would be very welcome.

for sure you can grow it in tropical Peru, but Cusco might be a bit difficult due to the elevation and dry air. give it a shot, if not some land down by the jungle would be perfect. Maybe someone could grow it for you there or work on it.
Best of luck, I hope you get them going. I agree we need more of these amazing trees as demand is going to increase.
*Kambohuasca is a good guy.
Thanks

Yes it is you should ask him, he was going to send some seeds to me but part of it involved some white powder which would probably get me into trouble here in south asia so think that maybe put him off. If it was doable id do it just been very busy the last month to look into such things.

Sorry to bring up an old thread like this, but i am really curious about iboga in peru. Is it rare? Are there only a few places that offer iboga and is it hard to find these? I want to do a ceremony with a shaman but i dont want to travel all the way to africa so i was wondering if anyone here could point me in the right direction of some places in peru or even brazil that could let me particapate in an iboga ceremony?

Are they mainly for addicts or can you participate just for the experience? I guess another reason why i want to do it in a traditional ceremony is because i want the healing/blessing you get from the shamans, so thats why i want to do it in south america although i would definitely do it in canada..

Why would South America make any difference for shamans? Iboga is from africa not south america so if you want bwiti shamans you should go to Gabon. The centers in south america are likely to be run the same as they are here..unless you go to costa rica and take iboga with that one bwiti guy..I will not mention names but I have heard extremely shady things about that guy..just in case you are referring to that place. Yes anyone can come to the centers here in canada from my understanding..it's not just for addicts. http://www.ibogatherapyhouse.net/If you want traditional cermemonies in south america san pedro and ayahuasca are prob what you are looking for. I agree, my first choice would be to go to africa and take part in the ceremony there with the bwiti, but it is too expensive for one and also i want to take part in ayahuasca and kambo while i'm there in south america, something i couldn't do in africa.
I also want the spiritual healing that comes with a ceremony with a shaman. If i were to do it in a clinical setting, they would be there mainly just to monitor me and make sure i was safe the whole time, not really any kind of deep healing (unless i got it from the plant itself, which is very possible but i feel like a shaman would be able to give more healing energy than just the plant itself).
