Does anyone else think psychedelics have influenced architecture throughout time? Seems very likely to me. I've been trying to find an article from someone who has researched this and don't see anything particularly relevant.

Thanks I really need to check out more of asian/indian architecture! They know. ;] Geometry is great, I could definitely imagine that the first mathematicians and architects were inspired by the archetypal geometric structures inherent in psychedelics.

Lol yea there's that stuff and then there's normal geometric stuff we use that is obviously archetypica stuff that's been ingrained in us forever that we put to work.

You'll find the craziest geometric stuff in Islamic architecture. Check this out:

Now we are not talking about a culture that embraces any kind of spiritual individuality... Plus, this happened in the late 1500s,I believe. So probably no entheogens. But dang, what a place to drop a couple tabs!

The thing about Islamic architecture is that they have a prohibition on drawing the image of the prophet... Which somehow translates to a dearth of illustrative art. The upside of this has been this singular focus on geometric decorative art, which was accompanied by a thriving mathematical tradition.

Somehow, that combination has produced some highly psychedelic stuff.

I know that the oldest extant geometry texts are the Sulba Sutras, from the Vedic period in India (around 600 BC?), which give instructions for construction of "fire-altars" in the shapes of creatures such as falcons and tortoises. Don't know whether psychedelics were explicitly involved in any of this - but architecture that uses self-reference/self-replication/symmetry/patternings takes on psychedelic qualities regardless.

Thanks for the info

Guyomech:

Those buildings are pretty spectacular, they may not be inspired by psychedelics but i wonder, perhaps meditation.

Lyserge:

That is extremely interesting, I wonder if ancient people were much more perceptual on a spiritual level or if they meditated, they certainly didnt have definitions for almost everything in our world like we do now, which leaves perception open.

Peacee
