when swim first started to smoke spice the sandwich method in a bong is what was used. The smoke was not harsh at all on the contradictory to what was heard. Then swim tried a freebase pipe, the smoke was very harsh and the experience was much less magical. I've also heard of someone cutting out the bottom of a pop bottle then putting the freebase on a tinfoil "pan" wrapped to the bottom and vaporizing it into the bottle, and after inhaling it all at once. I know tinfoil is not great to use but would this method be successful with maybe a copper, steel, or glass bottom? Would the smoke harshness be the same as that of a freebase pipe? How harsh is the smoke when using gvg in comparison to other methods?

Anyone else have different smoking methods, how intense was the trip and how harsh did you find the smoke to be?

I would most definitely try some improvised method that heats by controlled convection (hot air) instead of conduction (hot glass/metal) or direct combustion with a lighter. The glass vapor genie uses the ceramic filter as a buffer and it heats in a very controlled way, but the same principle could be applied to an improvised method.. The most developed improvised method I know is the Inspirator MKII from amorfati, I think its definitely one to check out if you dont have a vaporgenie. Its in our WIKI.

Ive also already tried pipes, bongs and the machine, and out of them, I've found a bong, sandwhiched between thick layer of ashes and being very careful with the lighter keeping it farther away so it doesnt combust, I could get a decently smooth vapor and work ok, ive had breakthroughs, but its anyways very hit-and-miss, one needs to develop technique very well, and occasionaly one burns the DMT and it tastes harsh as hell (possible toxic compounds generated too).

So look into convection if you can.

Keep in mind you generally want it in you fast and at once. I have a convection vaporizer, the Volcano, and it does the job very cleanly, but too slowly. Filling a bag of dmt vapors takes about 45 seconds and then another 45 seconds of 4-5 hits from the bag. In that amount of time, I assume the benefit of vaporizing has been fractured by the slowed administration of the dose. I never broke through on the volcano.

Every one i know smokes through a water bong, just smoke very slow and hold it in for at least ten seconds.
Always a winner.

Just go light on the lighter, just heat it to orange end suck without lighter.
Pack cone half and then place in crystal and pack more filler on top.

I have had two full blown breakthroughs smoking through a bong.
I have smoked crystal this way twice and broke through both times 100% success.
And every herbal cone i have had has never let me down, Smoking through a bong really helps to get it all there at once...

isn't the essential vape basically the same as an oil burner?

Before I got my GVG I used my version of "The Machine". Mine was made out of a glass pipe. Very effective and easy to use.

Everyone sort of "poo-poo's" the oil burner but I personally have had great success with it.
But to get it to work I have to make sure of a few things,,,,

First of all I use an oil burner that is made of very thin glass.
(-I have tried the heavy thicker oil burners and they don't seem to work unless you have a pocket torch...)

Second of all, I make sure there is not more than 25mgs in the bowl at any one time...
If there is too much in there it won't vaporize at all
(-so for people that need to smoke 30mgs or more in one sitting..the oil burner won't work.)

Thirdly,
I use paper matches only and it vaporizes like a charm
What I do is get about 5 or six matches ready along with an ashtray or glass of water to throw the hot matches in so I don't burn a hole in anything while I'm in hyperspace.

I don't really like to use a pocket torch because of the butane but...they work well too..

Hmm maybe I am doing something wrong. I tried using a candle on a table about 4 inches below the pipe. The freebase turns to liquid pretty quick, do I start inhaling right away? and should I keep the heat applied?

just use a bong. works great. i usually smoke changa, but when using freebase i just add some herbal matter to the bottom of the cone piece, put the dmt on top, then cover in herbs.. and it can just be smoked like a normal cone. just make sure the layer on top is thick enough that the lighter flame won't directly touch the dmt. let the embers of the herbs do the job... this has always worked fantastic for me and single toke breakthroughs are easily achievable with the regular amounts of dmt required. i am yet to try the gvg... sure have heard good things about it though so i'll prolly order one in the near future to see what all the hype is about but yeah, its definitely not essential, you really just gotta understand the principles behind vaporising and you can improvise with a whole number of devices. ... bong+changa = incredibly easy way of getting to hyperspace in one toke

I enjoy the freebase pipe most. The smoke isn't that harsh for me and i feel like my stash goes further. And if you don't use it all or torch it too bad then you can break through on resin. I also like to be coherent i.e. not high. Its hard enough to remember my trips as it is.
