So there is this thread at the ayahuasca forums..

http://forums.ayahuasca....16&p=217646#p217646

Apparently some person(and their friend) at some point claims that they got "drug-induced hepatitis, bloody urine, and grey stools" from drinking rue and mimosa 2 times a month for 6 months.

Personally I think this is bs that someone made up, either that or there is something they are not saying.

I have never ever heard of anyone having problems like this with rue or mimosa and have never had problems myself.

I would really like a doctors opinion here so I can put this whole thing to rest and post the results on the aya forums.

I really dont think that the tannins consumed in even weekly rue/mimosa tea comes anywhere close to the ammount of tannins given to people in tannic acid treatments etc where there is apparently some liver issues.

Long live the unwoke.

Im no expert in this but AFAIK, mimosa contains CONDENSED tannins which are somewhat different to (and safer on the liver than) the hepatotoxic HYDROLYZABLE tannins.

When making brews of plant substances its important to consider that there may be a range of contaminants which potentially could be toxic, including on the liver.
We should never forget the possibility of an idiosyncratic reaction in some individuals with a compound/compounds which the vast majority can take without issues. For example, penicillins can cause a rare but nasty hypersensitivity reaction in the occasional individual called acute interstitial nephritis which can cause chronic renal failiure.

I also believe that variations in human genetic make-up and physiology could explain these rare but disquieting effects.
I am paranoid of my brain. It thinks all the time, even when I'm asleep. My thoughts assail me. Murderous lechers they are. Thought is the assassin of thought. Like a man stabbing himself with one hand while the other hand tries to stop the blade. Like an explosion that destroys the detonator. I am paranoid of my brain. It makes me unsettled and ill at ease. Makes me chase my tail, freezes my eyes and shuts me down. Watches me. Eats my head. It destroys me.

Thanks corpus..

I found this also..

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/153176

Seems they found no hepatic effects in rats from condensed tannins..
