Now, there is going to be obvious disagreement over the apparent health risks..so I wont get into that. There is the fact that insurance companies refuse to cover any sort of illness related to smart meters though..and they do not just emit 45 times a day..they emit thousands of times a day. If that is dangerous or not is a whole other debate.

They do take some of your right to privacy away. A smart meter put in your home will tansmit inforamtion about when you use your energy and how much you use at certain times..they know when you go on vaction and when you dont..when you watch the most television and when you dont. This is dat compiling. This can be sold to marketing companies. This is an invasion of your provacy.

Smart meters run off the grid..not a battery. They use up energy just to have them and there is NO evidence to suggest they are green at all. They are NOT a certified technology. They are cheap pieces of crap made in china, that have been prone to starting fires and shorting out peoples electronics..causing them alot of money having to replace electronics in their homes or even replacing them with other wireless devices.

They take the jobs of meter readers. This is not just about having jobs though..this is s necessary job, as reading analogue meters stops certain things from happening that they wont otherwise be made aware of. Like fires.

For me though the main 2 reasons I am opposed to them are that I dont want more EMF in my home when wired devices can easily be offered as an alternative, and as tax paying citizens of a so called "democracy" we deserve that right.

I also dont like the idea of hydro companies being bale to monitor energy intake other than how much of it you use in a month. It is none of their damn business.

I am staying with minxx at my dads right now because we moved out of the city and are here for a bit while we figure stuff out here and look for a place. My dad does not want a smart meter and told me to tell them that..so I did. I caught them trying to take the old meter from the house and put on a smart meter, without consent and I told them to get the hell off of the property asap as they were trespassing and vandalizing. Basically if they dont leave you have the right to defend your propery..you figure out what that means. They tried to tell me it was mandatory..I refused to listen and made them leave anyway.

After doing more research I found out alot of people have done the same thing and I got a legal document to sign basically stating that they are not authorized to do anything here other than read the analogue meter that is here. I also build metal cage around the meter so they will have to remove that to replace anything, which would be vandalism and at that point you can detain them(citizens arrest) and call the police.

Please people remember you have rights. Use them and stop being walked all over. This is the only way we can approach something that resembles a true democracy.

Hate them myself. Wish I knew more about them before I allowed one on my property. Now I'm trying to figure out how to get rid of it. Fucks up all the wireless computer communications like keyboards and mouse functionality. I swear I have more tinitus than I ever have before, lots of ringing in the ears. Housemate has more headaches than ever before. Don't like them, don't trust them, want to ban them and get rid of mine. Don't like the idea of them spying on my and what electronics I use and when either. Friends report even worse problems than mine. We should all rebel and revolt against this technology.

I would hate it if I had any EMF device in my home that I could not switch off. Even though the probable harm of it is highly debatable, the placebo effect alone could stir an Ayahuasca session into the wrong direction.

Then for privacy:
* I don't want anyone to know WHEN I use my electricity.
* If criminals gain access (in The Netherlands the smart meter communicates via GPRS, a technology for which it is already shown to be interceptable by a third party) then they will know your energy usage and timing too and probably be able to know if you are at home or not.

In The Netherlands the parliament put the smart meter roll out on hold for technical and privacy issues. However, when in the future there will be a better meter available that resolved the current issues it might be that they will proceed again with it.

Well having worked for probably the UK's largest energy supplier, in the 'Smart Metering' department, I am 'lucky' enough to know a thing or two about the whole operation. Let me first tell you that these things are causing SO many problems at the business end of things. British Gas are at the moment trying to get them installed in every customers home in the country, which is a HUGE undertaking considering that they aren't even working properly! They do not communicate back to base as efficiently as they are supposed to.

Now these were introduced so that they would not have to estimate people's bills, or send engineers around to get accurate meter readings. They will also replace the old meters which were very (!!!) easy to tamper with in order to get free electricity/ gas. This is the official line. But, yes I do see that they could well be (and probably will be) used to gather data about their customers. It will also make it easier for law enforcement to judge whether some one has set up a grow tent for instance, as the stats will show that hmmm... this person is suddenly using an extra 2000watts 24 hrs a day, even when they are asleep. And yes, energy companies do work in cahoots with the police in order to bust growers, particularly those that are thieving energy.
