When researching the uses of the plant, Acacia victoriae, I came across various sources (mostly leading back to a Polish source) that states that the bark and leaves of the plant contains the alkaloid 5-MeO-alkyltryptamine. I've never heard of this.

What would be the effects of 5-MeO-alkyltryptamine? Legal considerations?

there's no such thing as alkyltryptamine, tryptamine is indoleethylamine.

you must be thinking of alkyl-substituents on the amine, as in n-alkyl, or n,n-dialkyl
alkyl refers to a multi-carbon functional group. keep in mind, those analogues seem to be
inactive after n-butyl/n,n-dibutyl.

OK thanks for your answer, but I don't understand it. I'm not a chemist, just a botanist doing some research to determine what various uses different plants might serve. Please explain your response to me as if you were talking to a five-year-old. There is a lot of literature explaining what DMT is and 5-MeO-DMT is, however, I haven't found anything regarding this chemical.

So what you're telling me is that Acacia victoriae bark contains 5-MeO-DMT, and that "alkyltryptamine" was just some chemist jargon nonsense that was accidentally placed in the literature, accidentally replacing the word dimethyltryptamine with alkyltryptamine? So the literature is wrong and we really have 5-MeO-dimethyltryptamine wherever 5-MeO-alkyltryptamine is mentioned? Am I correct to say that these chemical names are not synonyms for each other, and that the latter does not exist?
