Hey does anyone know the typical oxidization rate of pure white/clear N-N-DMT crystals into DMT N-oxide? SWIMs pet tuatara has some of these white/clear crystals and was also going to extract all the rest of the DMT from the rest of his mimosa to get some of these crystals to get rid of the evidence of extraction since things are starting to get a little out of hand in the Americas. The tuatara was wondering how long these white/clear crystals typically last before they oxidize when say stored in a vile?

the oxidation should be temp and air dependent
avoid warmth and lots of airflow and you can minimize it.
a vial should be ideal

1.1g (dark yellow at this point) was sugar white at the time of storage
stored in a plastic snaptop container(not air tight)
in a non climate controlled gurage
discovered roughly 1.5 years later
RC yield was 0.62g
roughly 44% lost product
with this info one could say

2.5% loss of product per month

but obviously the oxy rate would very dramatically depending on temp container purity exc...
another thing is that the 2.5% would be an average and dmt will oxidize a lot faster in the summer at 110F than it would in winter at -5F

RC yield meaning recrystallization? Well unless you had a control test before it was stored to see how much a re-x on the 'clean' dmt before the oxidation yields, you dont really know how much of the loss was actually because of what you suppose its dmt n-oxide and what were other impurities or even dmt loss (there's always some dmt in the goo that stays on the bottom of re-x )

I have witnessed dmt changing colors with storage in impropper conditions but I've personally found it to be equally active using an effective vaporization method. It is possible the oxidation is mostly superficial and that a lot of DMT is still intact. It may also be that the darkening is not happening to dmt but to other impurities in it (or to both), for example dmt has been shown to also have traces of NMT when extracting from mimosa (and some acacias), and NMT darkens color and yet does not form oxides (I think its not known what causes the darkening?).

Some people feel DMT n-oxide is qualitatively different than DMT (some say mellower, some say darker, some say lighter, some say harsh, etc) but this may also be due to self suggestion, or also smoking method and the differences in vaporization efficiency of an oily product vs a crystal one.
There have been few if any double blind tests to say if people can really notice a difference, if its there. In any case just dont throw anything away, bioassay separately if you want. It's possible pharmacologically DMT N-oxide metabolizes into DMT

Also sometimes people talk about yellow=n-oxide but there is not much evidence that confirms that. DMT N-Oxide is very easy to tell appart from DMT in TLC, and I havent seen anybody showing n-oxide in these extractions. I've neither found evidence of n-oxide in yellow dmt with TLC, but that doesnt mean its not possible. The ideal would be to have some DMT test it before with TLC or other analytical equipment if available, and then after a certain time test again stored in good conditions vs in bad conditions.

cool guys thanks for the info, I think using the vials should help a lot to minimize oxidation. I was only wanting to store it for a year or so vials should work out fine based of what you guys have suggested.

Dark, cold, airtight and dry, or as much as possible.

For example an artight dark vial or with alu foil around, with dessicant (calcium chloride, silica packets, etc), and in the freezer. Dessicant might be the most unnecessary part of this as long as your dmt is dry to begin with and the vial is artight and not swimming in a pool .

Keep a small amount of dmt in a different storing condition just to test the differences, and let us know how it goes some months from now
