The idea of DMT intimidates me. I'm not sure I am quite ready to undergo such an experience quite yet.

ive heard the whole experience hyped up so much over time and I feel like I am obligated to wait until the set and setting is correct.

I am in no rush to try DMT and am here to learn.

A wise choice. Psychedelics and specifically DMT are very intense and require that you prepare yourself mentally. If you feel you're not ready to try, then don't. Your time will come. And if you do find the right set and setting, you'll be glad you waited. A very fine choice sir!

Yes indeed a wise decision. You will know when the time and place is right.

Can one ever be ready for dmt? Even with all the times I've done dmt now still never quite feel like I'm ready or prepared for it. Hard one to know unless you try. Waiting can make you more apprehensive in the long run. Hard one to grasp as to when the time is right.
Black then white are all I see in my infancy.
Red and yellow then came to be,
reaching out to me, lets me see.
There is so much more and it beckons me to look though to these,
infinite possibilities.
As below so above and beyond I imagine,
drawn outside the lines of reason.
Push the envelope. Watch it bend.

You can at least take the proper measures to ensure a beautiful and transformative experience in regards to set and setting.

One can be only as ready as one thinks he/she is.

The right time to take a psychedelic is an interesting conundrum to me.

On the one hand, one should wait until he/she feels ready. On the other, the right state of mind for a positive experience might be achieved by another route.

I have come back to being interested in psychedelics after a 20 year absence, and have a relevant case to share.

I got hold of some 5-meo while gathering my extraction bits and pieces. I tried a small amount of the 5-meo and I couldn't get past my fear, so clearly not ready. A few weeks later I decided I was in a fearless state of mind at the tail end of an mdma experience. So I took another hit of the 5-meo and had a wonderful experience. Now some of the fear is lost.

So in my case the 'right moment' did not come from achieving the right state of mind on my own, (which i'd struggle with, due to past experiences) but due to a fake state of mind induced by a horrible but effective courage powder.

Is this wrong?

Even the great Terence McKenna would go nowhere near any psychedelic without having copious amounts of cannabis to hand. He claimed the cannabis allowed him to 'navigate' the psychedelic spaces...

Until ive lost my fear from the past I have no shame about reinforcing my state of mind, however impure that approach may seem to others.

I don't think one can ever fully be ready for the power that is DMT. It is an earth shattering experience and it's a wise decision to respect it. Set and setting does need to be right when it comes to most psychedelics.

So as others said, wise choice.

I say wise choice, but also want to say being too careful can cause a perfect moment to pass. I came super close to letting my first experience with ayahuasca pass, but was convinced I was in good hands and it ended up being one of the best experiences of my life. so while being careful also try to be open to when a good set and setting are around. it could just be fear and your ego holding you back
