Hello all Very happy Very happy Very happy

Im super stoked because just recently my absolute favorite band of all time released a new CD.

The band is Ozric Tentacles, the cd is called Paper Monkeys!

My avatar is a small picture from the Paper Monkeys album art.

Everytime a new Ozric album comes out, it is a very special event for me, but this one i am ultra exited for for some reason...
I still havent heard the cd except for 1 song, which i heard live when i saw them play, and it was fucking mindblowing! The concert itself was a trip, and amazing, but that is a whole nother thread altogether! The reason i havent listened yet is because i always like to take a nice strong dose of tea (mimosa) before "diving" into a new Ozric album ( a new world unto itself), because that way I am hearing the cd fresh, without prior opinions, for what it is, (and the fact that to truly "hear" Ozric, you have to be tripping pretty good, it is what it is lol) It is a tradition that is dear to me, taking a good dose and going on a new sonic journey every time ozric does a cd. This friday that is exactly what were gunnu do me and a few buddies will drink some mimosa tea or ayahuasca tea (depending on our mood) and jam out!

Each album is based on a unexplainable concept and other aspects and offshoots of the concept. The last one had a magical enchanted forest/ fruity vibe which really took me along for a ride, and i thought, this motherfucker is crazy?! how can he come up with an idea like this and make it a recorded reality?! I can't explain the concepts to you and all, but i can say that I DO pick up on these concepts and it is a truly mindblowing experience.

Im just encouraging you guys to check out the cd, maybe on youtube (poor sound quality) or search paper monkeys samples amazon, and there are some samples up on amazon. If you like the sound, buy the album or pay to download it on amazon or cd universe. Please do not steal it, these guys arent rich and really deserve so much more, the least we can do is pay them for their hard work and brilliant innovation.

But dont take my word for it, check out paper monkeys for yourself. And while your at it, buy the whole Ozric discography lol, each cd is a unique trip on its own, and its absolutely a trip worth taking. Best money you can spend.

1. Attack of the Vapours
2. Lemon Kush
3. Flying Machines
4. Knurl
5. Lost in the Sky
6. Paper Monkeys
7. Plowm
8. Will of the Wisps
9. Air City

Check it out and let me know what you think! Check out the other albums too, and discuss here!

Thanks guys, hoping someone takes the time to check it out, and buys the album.

Yep, the Ozrics are really special... I love them.

The taste of Arborescence, the world-stopper in the middle of Strangeitude, the psychedelic grand opening of Dissolution, that moment in Jurassic Shift when the magic sack opens and pours out the everything on me, the Domes of D'Bal, Afroclonk, etc. etc.

The utter disbelief I had every time when I realized that the members of this band are in permanent contact with this hidden reality and can fluently express it in their music... The symbols, the hidden meaning which you find when you get into that special state... the other, hidden side of these people, the elves, the druids, the fairies, the hidden kingdom and all that stuff...

Truly magical.

Great news to hear the Ozrics back with another disc.

Pungent Effulgent is a great favourite, as well as Erplan and yes, Jurassic Shift.

And i can definetly relate to all of this! Ozric doesnt go out of their way to make it obvious for you, they just do what they do with 100% integrity. They are 1 of a kind amazing.

I dig Eat Static as well - the Ozric's rave offshoot. Science of the Gods, Declassified, Epsylon, Abduction & Implant. All great!

Diehard Ozric fan.

I've been into these guys since before their first CD... back when they only put out cheesy looking cassette tapes.

I remember when no one in the states knew them (still don't in any great numbers) and I would buy cassettes from a strange freak that sold them in Dead parking lots back in the 80's. He said he had played with Gong for a bit. Who knows. He certainly looked the part.

Harmalosa, I feel you though about listening to this music altered. After all the time SWIM spent journeying to their tunes, about 10 years ago SWIM got to return the favor and gave some of his San Pedro cactus to Ed.

For those who have no idea about this awesome band:

..cool, i saw Ozrics live years ago in London..they were fantastic! (and up there with Spongle for psychedelicness)
i'd heard they'd fallen apart since the keyboard player and drummer got lost in Eat Static, so great to hear they're still going...

Its been mostly the Ed Wynne show for a while now, and the loss of original members like Jon (who played flutes and said bizarre things) pushed the sound into more electronic directions, but Ed always has a top notch band with him... and it often includes expats like Seaweed and amazing younger players like Metro.

Ed & his wife Brandi are basically Ozric Tentacles these days (and have been for a number of albums).

This in no way diminishes the awesomeness, though. Ed's compositions have always been the backbone of the beast, and his shredding electric guitar lines are homage worthy.

If anything, their more electronic sound matches the tastes of the young people even better perhaps than their old school space rock. They sound like Shpongle... with even higher doses of entheogenic goodness, now.

I also love their album art, with frequent appearance of the OT erps and that mysterious question mark.

There will always be a place in my heart for Ozric Tentacles. I've seen them live a few times and they never fail to impress. Erpland and Jurassic Shift were the sound tracks to many nights of stoned madness in my youth.

Iv always been confused how they dont have an insane following like the greatful dead, i can totaly see touring around with these guys being life changing, and cant you imagine ozric tenticle carpark scenes like those of GD? i really see them as the ultimate traditional psy band. they bring me back to the most amazing times with my friends in my room back in my mums old house, lying on our backs with amythest on our forheads contacting "god"

Very happy

i must say i dont find this album quite up there with their greats but im loving it all the same, i think this is because of what has been said, that its mainly Ed and Brandi's band now. A good friend of mine put on a show for them a wile back and said they were coke'd up badly and really rude, wich is a sad thing indeed Sad but ultimatly their older stuff is amazing and they're newer stuff is really good!

i know their stuff so well id love to find alternatives! Nodens Ictus are a more chilled side project by some of the guys from ozric, and ofcorse eat static is the goa/early psytrance project that spun from ozric, but they're pretty dated now to say the least. anyone got any more?

Tidal Flood is already pretty well gone AFAIK.
Hidria Spacefolk have a couple good discs.
Ponga & Moksha are worthy as well.

There are a lot of Cantebury and Krautrock bands that verge on Oz... I guess you will have to dig backwards like nen888 suggests. (Gong, Hawkwind, Hillage, Ash Ra Tempel, Amon Düül, Soft Machine etc.)

But in the end, there is nothing quite like Ozric Tentacles.
