you don't have to pluck out the furries, but i don't think it will hurt them any (worst case scenario prolly just grow em back)
but those are definitely lophs..
where did you get those?

Almost all of them look like Lophophora Williamsii (peyote)

no but in all seriousness, i would get ahold of some pereskiopsis spathula for grafting those lophs.
too bad there are no caespitosa, those are amazing for propagation, but pereskiopsis would probably still help the lophs to seed faster. you might even get a few pups to graft off em as well.

They are each between 5-6cm in diameter, and 8-9 years old.
I have not watered these guys once yet.
I re-potted them into slightly larger pots than the ones they came in, using 50% coconut fiber 50% lava rock.
I believe the moisture from this new "soil" is enough to keep them happy for awhile.

I plan on consuming 4-5 and letting the other 5-6 grow out to be much larger.

i would consider trying to graft about 4-5, that way if you fuck up, you can just make tea , and if you don't you have successful grafts you can grow out faster than if rooted.

I looked into grafting. When you graft them to larger stocks, they get bigger much more quickly, but the mescaline ,and other plant alkaloid, content does not change (and if it does it is so insignificant that it does not matter)

This means that ultimately I would have to choke down more BITTER meat to get the same effects.

I'm not a loph expert, but most of those look like they come from the diffusa group to me. There are 3 in there that have well defined ribs that could be willies though. check this out: http://www.kadasgarden.c...ophophorachart.html#comp

ps I've never seen anyone do a definitive test on alk profiles of grafted vs non grafted plants, and everyone I've talked to who ate a grafted plant said it was not lacking... "grafting = little alks" could be totally wrong as far as I know. that statement reeks of infinitely propagated internet speculation.

yea all bioassays i have heard state they are equally potent.
also from the trip reports i have read on erowid, diffusa is definitely a healing plant, much like williamsii, but it has no mescaline in it.

After lots of research and looking at many, many, many pictures, I have determined that these are L. Williamsii (not sure which variation)
The ribs, color, seeds, seed pods, and the areoles are all the exact same as Williamsii

if they are getting/or rather have been getting full sun, then they look fairly diffusa
