I thought I'd share this with you guys as I think this is very interesting and shows that a "psychedelic revolution" is on its way as the mass media is posting articles like these: http://www.huffingtonpos...before-pub_b_227887.htmlAlbert Hoffman thought he's write Steve Jobs a letter because he felt that he might be able to help move "his problem child into the right light". I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Cool article. As people at large realize what those of us in the know have always known, it might break down some walls. Anyone who has hung out in Silicon Valley (or any enclave of the cognoscenti for that matter) knows that the people who make the leaps and push forward the novelty envelope are nearly always people who have used entheogens. Is it wrong that I, being a long time Apple antagonist, would actually consider getting an iPhone after reading more and more on Jobs' affinity for LSD?

Oneiros wrote:Is it wrong that I, being a long time Apple antagonist, would actually consider getting an iPhone after reading more and more on Jobs' affinity for LSD? Hehehe. Gullible perhaps. I hate apple products, but have always respected Jobs. (was more of a Wozniak guy, though) Personally, I see no reason to pay 2x as much or more for half the power and then be saddled with a product that tries to control what you can and can not do with your own equipment. Apple is awesome at marketing and creating a mystique that they are cool... but I don't buy tech to be cool. I want the most power and freedom for the least amount of dollars. And, simply put, that is not apple. Apple's attempts to idiot proof their gadgets make them annoying to anyone who actually knows what they are doing. I hate "user friendly" crap that tries to make decisions for me. I hate when my equipment does things I didn't explicitly tell it to do. iTunes is more "Big Brother" than Microsoft ever was IMO. And still, Steve Jobs was a pretty cool guy, nonetheless. RIP. "Curiouser and curiouser..." ~ Alice

I'm not that curious about the details of Jobs' LSD experience. The simple fact that a 101 year old Albert Hoffman wrote him that letter and Jobs didn't even reply to him classifies Jobs as a jerk, at least according to my scale. "The Menu is Not The Meal." - Alan Watts

Steve Jobs was an asshole, neither being rich or liking LSD has anything to do with being a good person. After he died, I said "Someday I hope I'm rich enough so that when I die condolences will echo throughout the capitalist world. If only I could innovate new ways to take advantage of Chinese slave labor..." A friend responded.. Quote:the conscience of production is determined not by methods but by the products themselves, as follows: square products correspond to little to no cosncience; square products with rounded corners to high conscience; and spherical products to cosmic conscience, or samahdi. jobs' staggering insight was that consumers would be willing to pay a premium for more rounded -- and therefore conscious -- products, allowing him to best his competitors at equal production efficiency. it is only natural that such consumers would be grateful to him, as he aided them greatly in the pursuit of a higher conscience. an understanding of the conscience/efficiency dichotomy allows one to see that employing children to produce spherical gadgets might be the innovation SWIM is looking for; in addition to inheriting jobs' following, he could stand to gain respect from the less communist (conscience-focused) capitalists as well. a win/win/win! (the third win is for the universe as a whole) But yea, point is just because he made a phone with rounded corners and called himself a Buddhist doesn't mean he didn't build the biggest corporation on the planet using Chinese slave labor, draconian employee treatment, patent trolling etc., showing no love for philanthropy or progress other than economic. You are what you're doing. Who are you?

I was purely looking for a laugh with my statement, and still plan on staying away from Apple products like the plague unless they change their monopolizing business practices. You still can't get Flash on Apple products, am I right?

OGB wrote:also i dont like apple because of all the annoying apple users that think that they are cool and creative just because they spent 1500$ on a computer Well I happened to work on macs and was surprised at how many microsofts users have problems with their machines and programs. It's like it always brake or loosing datas somewhere. Unix users don't have this problem as far as this experience can go. After all this debate is a bit an apple and banana talk (no pun intended ![Pleased](/forum/images/emoticons/happy.png) So, OGB, I do'nt think you can't reduce everything down to design and price. A computer isn't just a piece of electronic you can buy 40$ on ebay. It can be a real piece of shit as it can be a very good quality technology. Smell like tea n,n spirit !

i'm with the others on this not a fanboy, and not impressed with Apple's business model, since they stubbornly close the source on most of the the programs which control their hardware. for scientific applications, OSX sux @$$; and Excel is painfully slow on a mac. my wife loves mac (she's an artist), but I strictly use linux. I actually know how to use a computer, so I don't need my operating system simplified for me. Like many other people, I reserve the right to modify it if i damn well want to. i dont want to say Apple is bad.. its a matter of taste, but my impression is, that a lot of people get it as a kind of status symbol and because it makes them feel creative and cool. Also i dont like how they glorify Steve Jobs. My ex was kind of like this, so maybe im a little prejudiced. I personally prefer ubuntu ![Smile](/forum/images/emoticons/smile.png) All post are fully fictional. Any resemblance to real persons, living or dead, is purely coincidental.

Jobs was indeed, a jerk, and a hypocrite. Which is a pity as he could have been something else. Read about how he ripped off Woz. I mean, have you seen Woz? Who could rip him off? Its like kicking a puppy. I think Apple is the new Sony. They trod the same path, and in the end it almost destroyed them. Apple may well go the same way. We shall see. As for his LSD use, well, so what? Make anything a matter of ego and it is really useless. Spiritual materialism as a wise mad man once said... That has got to be the cheeziest account of a trip ever Gilga, not hatin, just statin, and it was a great story, only if LSD was so important to Steve, and even given an epic chance to give back when personally asked by the father of the sacrament himself, does not? With no reply or reason why? Yea I think I like Apple even less now, but what I did like most of the story was the part were it spoke of the guy who discovered DNA fist seeing the double helix for the fist time while being on LSD. the guy supported asian slave labour..what else is there to say? There was another thread about steve jobs with people whining to me for saying "who cares" when it comes to steve jobs..and honestly..you did not know him. The guy was no saint. Look at the state of employee treatment at apple manufacturing sits..how is that justifiable? I dont care what else people post about what he did..he supported super shitty labour conditions in asia..people literally jump out of windows to they're death that work for apple..thats how bad it is.. Him not responding to Hoffman is not surprising to me. I even get a vibe of arrogance listeing to him in interviews. Long live the unwoke.
