it's not "all alcohol" - for example, alcohol in beer is the byproduct of fermentation by a variety of yeasts producing dozens of different types of alcohols and other compounds. Alcohol in spirits is generally produced by distillation of an alcoholic mash liquor; these base liquors vary depending on the source of sugars in the mash liquor: gin, vodka, whiskey, rum - all distilled from mashes fermented from different starting sources like potatoes, molasses or grain. The resulting alcohols are predictably unique. In addition, the alcohol in each product is often used in combination with other psychoactives such as hops, or as a solvent to extract flavors from oak barrels, adding extra elements of complexity.

DMT is DMT - it's a molecule. Extractions simply bring this molecule from one matrix to another, as opposed to synthesis, which would create the molecule from other molecules through chemical reactions. But different sources of DMT may provide other psychoactives as well - desired or undesired - and different solvents may have different actions in extractions, providing different levels of purity. This is why certain solvents are recommended over others in the various teks. Then there are admixtures, in which DMT of various purity is deliberately supplemented by other psychoactive substances; for example, in changa.
It stands to reason that samples from the same preparation would yield similar effects, which could be different from samples of a different preparation. but these similarities and differences are often in the perception of the user. To drag the analogy back to alcohol, there are those who have the experience and have developed their senses to be able to tell the difference between various whiskeys, and then those who haven't. I have observed that psychonauts express their preferences in similar ways.
