I was wondering if anyone else has this happen to them or if I'm just using cheap ph testers. I have both a paper strip and a liquid ph testing kit, and though I'll readily admit that neither are the highest quality available, I get the same result with both. What happens is that after I've run my MHRB through its acid washes and I start to basify with my NaOH solution, at first the mixture stays very low ph and then jumps when it seems like it's reached a threshold of some sort. As in, my ph strips read 3ish, 4ish, 5ish and then suddenly 12 or 13. I would expect a more gradual change but I never catch say, a ph of 7. Is this because of my cheap equipment or because of some chemistry magic?

are you aware of what a titration curve is?

looks something like this

acid/base chemistry equilibria.

Singularities are interesting phenomenon. I love how the pH goes from moderately acidic to moderately basic in literally a range of a few drops....
