Hi,

I have seen sodium hydroxide on our grocery but it's for cleaning clogs and its colored red, i'm guessing this is to identify it as a dangerous liquid and nothing more than that.

Can i use this without having the color mixing with the crystals?

anyone used something like this before?

I'm talking about Liquid Sosa by Gleam

Absolutely do not use anything that is not pure for extractions. I know, you have it and you want to use it because it's easy, but people mess up their entire extraction all the time from simply cutting corners and using things they should not be using. Purity is essential!

If you are having trouble finding sodium hydroxide/lye or potassium hydroxide aka KOH in your area, buy some Advanced Nutrients pH up (that brand only) as its a highly concentrated solution of potassium hydroxide and can be found at most hydroponic stores online and in store.

Do not use red sodium hydroxide, god knows what the hell is in it

Can you find Calcium Hydroxide? What about Sodium Carbonate? If you can find Calcium Hydroxide you can either do a dry tek like amorfati's/q21, or you can make your own lye with Calcium Hydroxide+Sodium Carbonate

Most likely, the extra stuff that is added to colored, store brand lye is sodium nitrate, and aluminum pellets, and of course, color. Sodium nitrate is a well known carcinogen, and, the store stuff usually contains very high quantities of it. If you find the MSDS for the product you're looking at, you'd probably find that it contains only about half sodium hydroxide, with 40% sodium nitrate, and the rest aluminum and other impurities.
