Hi everyone, me and a friend are halfway through the Harmalas Extraction and Separation Guide for syrian rue from the nexus wiki. We just finished the first sodium carbonate freebase step before the salting stage and final bicarb harmine/harmaline separation and are waiting for the solids to dry out on coffee filters. My question is, can I use the mix of alkaloids after this 1st freebase step as is? I realise that there is vasicine and a few other alkaloids as well as the harmine and harmaline, but that doesn't bother me if it's not harmful to my health. I would be using this in a changa mix I plan on making.

Also, is a 1:1 ratio of spice to harmaloids too much? If so what would be more suitable?

I'm looking forward to my new changa mix, I'm going for a middle eastern theme with the rue extract and herbs I am going to use so some thoughts from more experienced members would be much appreciated Smile

P.S. I am sending many positive vibes towards the nexus at the moment after the DDOS attack over the past week. I didn't realise how much I used this site and how much I missed it once it was out of action.

Peace and happy travelling Smile

I would clean it up more, but that's me. Dirty rue harmaloids will cause more nausea, but not so much when smoked. Also with such dirty harmalas, you might need to take twice as much for the same effect as pure.

As for your ratios, you didn't mention any herb content. 1:1 herb to spice is generally what you want, so 100 mg would be 50 mg of spice, a typical dose. Adding harmalas distorts the ratio, so you would need to compromise somewhere. For smoking harmalas, 25 mg would be a typical dose, so keeping 50 mg of spice would mean cutting the herbs in half and your changa would be hard to smoke. But by adding harmalas, you can reduce the spice content because you won't need as much. A 2:1:1 ratio should work well, 2 parts herb, 1 part spice, and 1 part harmalas. So yeah, your 1:1 ratio should work fine.

Okay Damon, thanks for the advice. I might keep a little of the 1st base and then finish off the rest to a more pure harmine/harmaline base and compare the two. I have smoked rue seeds before and didn't get any nausea off that, just a nice mellow stone.

Peace and happy travelling Smile
