Firstly, I would like to thank all members of this site for their help in the form of posts. Thanks to you guys, I learned how how to extract spice from MHrb. I have done 4 extractions ranging from 55g - 170g. So far I have been using the standard NaOH, MHrb, H2O ratio of 1:1:15.

I first encountered problems when I added the Naptha. Originally Nomans tek called for 1 ml Naptha / 1 g MHrb. After doing some more research I learned that .4ml Naptha / 1g MHrb was more suitable. When I added the recommended amount and double boiled the Naptha no crystals would precipitate out. I found success when I added the original amount of Naptha and then evaporated it down to the .4ml / 1g ratio.

For example with 60g of root bark:
60g x .4ml = 24ml Naptha

Originally a tek of this size would call for 60ml of Naptha

Why do I have to go through this process of evaporation when adding the smaller amount of Naptha should be sufficient?

I also know that this is the variable that is causing me trouble because I tested it. I did a heated Naptha pull on 60 g bark with 24ml of Naptha. After the freezing I acquired about one good hit of more or less pure spice. Later that day I did a second pull on the same bark with 60ml of Naptha except after I evaporated it down to 24ml and met success. It is currently in a shot glass in my -22 * C freezer. It looks very promising.

Once again thanks for your help and feel free to expand on this.

Yeah definitely if you pull with more and evaporate down, you get more saturated pulls. But then you are going to be wasting a lot of solvent, so the ideal is to make a bit smaller pulls that you can straight away put in the freezer.

How well are you mixing? Do you make many cycles of mixing/letting stand, before pulling?

When you say : "When I added the recommended amount and double boiled the Naptha no crystals would precipitate out", you mean you evaporated it down all the way? What were you left with, goo? Thats because if you want crystals from evap you need slower evap. Or freeze instead.

If you warm up your pull and do many cycles of mixing/letting stand, smaller pulls should work good for freezing straight away.

Good luck!

When I say double boiled I just meant heat up on the stove. I just did it in two containers with safety in mind. I think I should have let the first pull sit longer. I have started a larger extraction in a 3L jug. I have been shaking it intermittently for hours and plan to let it sit for a day.

I'm struggling with the same problem atm.
Turning the mixing jar and letting it stand is more important than i thought it was, i was too quick about it.
