Hey guys, just one quick question...

Is it possible to attain effects through simply consuming DMT-containing plant material (alongside harmalas)?
Could one, for instance, blend chaliponga leaves (after taking rue) and consume this? Or boil the leaves as normal but retain the plant material in the reduction stage? I'm certain you'd feel awfully nauseous, but such is the case with a normal aya preparation regardless.

Has anyone tried this? SWIM feels like discarding used leaves is a bit of a waste.

I haven't tried it, but I don't think it would work.

Seeing how many ayahuasca recipes require many hours of brewing the plant material to get the DMT out into liquid solution, I don't think your stomach acids would be able to break down the leaf, pull out the DMT, and absorb it before purging.

If anyone can give more insight, it would be appreciated. I've thought of trying this before and it sure would save a lot of prep time.

There are 2 separate reports on erowid of people consuming the raw plant material, and it seemed to work great. http://www.erowid.org/experiences/exp.php?ID=75277 , http://www.erowid.org/experiences/exp.php?ID=81934 . Although one guy did mix it with some mushrooms, and they both used MHRB, I don't see why it wouldn't work with chaliponga leaves.

Thanks for those erowid reports, good to know that it works with MHRB (although the second guy took a pretty huge dose).

SWIM has blended down around 13g of used (previously boiled for ayahuasca, but I believe there may still be life in it yet) chaliponga with some boiling water. Seems to blend decently well for saying the leaves are very brittle - you get a deep brown liquid with a mass of small solid sediments at the top. SWIM isn't expecting strong effects from it, seeing as it has already been used, but he didn't want to waste fresh material for this purpose. Probably will still have to filter it anyway, seeing as the sediment floats too well to stay inside the mixture. He'll freeze it now and take it tomorrow when he has more free time and see how he gets on.

If this works then it would be a very fast way to obtain an ayahuasca-like liquid (taking around 10 minutes at most). Certainly SWIM will be blending his leaves before making ayahuasca in the future regardless of whether this particular experiment works - it seems a pretty obvious thing to do in retrospect to improve extraction efficiency. Unless I'm mistaken it is the breaking of the cell walls that is the main obstacle in extracting the goodies - and blending (especially combined with boiling) ought to do a good job at this.

Freezing and unfreezing the leaves a few times is a very efficient way to break cell walls. Ice crystals formed in the cells will literally shatter the cells. Although the leaves may need to be slightly wet to make this work correctly.
