So in an earlier post , i was told by -Phlux that if i am extracting from plant material that contains alkaloids besides DMT, that i don't want , that i could do a heptane wash on my final result , and be left with pure DMT .

Can someone verify this , and give some explanation as to why exclusively DMT would be left. Surely there must be other chems with properties similar enough to stay. I have no idea really, very far from a chem expert so could some one please explain.

And also , can someone explain what causes dmt to to migrate from the basified solution ,to the naptha. For what reason are alkaloids more attracted to move into it?

It all depends what alkaloids are together with dmt. What plant would you be extracting from?

Heptane is very non-polar. Many other alkaloids will need a more polar solvent, so a heptane recrystallization will pick up mostly dmt and not many other alkaloids. But again, this depends on what alkaloids, and therefore what plant youre getting from. Check this page:

If you want to understand the basics of an extraction, the first place to check is always the FAQ, it has an overview of what happens in an extraction. If you also check the WIKI and read plenty of different teks, many of them explain why things are done. So do your research and you'll get your answer
