SWIM is experimenting with a tek that SWIM has seen no mention of thus far. This confuses SWIM as this method seems entirely logical. Its purely theoretical at this point, but a day or so away from success or failure.
It goes like this:
1) Soxhlet extraction of mimosa hostilis
- SWIM is using denatured alcohol with some fumaric acid added for good measure
2) distillation and drying of alcohol extraction
3) defatting result of step 2 with heptane (optional)
4) dissolving result of step 3 in FASA (Fumaric Acid Saturated Acetone)
5) Collect precipitate?
Shouldn't the result of step 5 be a precipitate of mostly DMT Fumarate?
Clearly it could be cleaned further with a standard A/B extraction, recrystallization, etc.
SWIM drys his acetone with 3A molecular sieves.
