When you asked about food grade phosphoric acid, is that because you did find a supplier for it or you want to know if, once you find, you should use food grade ?

I guess food grade is always good but many people use acid that isnt food grade.. do check the msds of any product you do find (as advised in this thread: https://www.dmt-nexus.me...&m=169895#post169895) .

Maybe going to bigger cities and checking out if there are any chemical / lab supply stores ? I've seen phosphoric acid being sold in big gardening stores (not in AUS, but just saying..) but I dont know whats the use they gave for it.

As for the friend swearing by it, there is a lot of hypothesis/supositions regarding extractions, but unless its tested, someone's opinion isnt necessarily right, even if they made some or other guide. The only real way to know is to make a side-by-side extraction with different acids to test the difference in yields, and AFAIK this hasnt been done yet (anybody up for it? ). Do note that im not saying you shouldnt do it, but just that doing it isnt guaranteed to give you better results and that people have been using other acids with very good results.

Do read up other teks just for the sake of seeing more or less the same process explained by different people so that you understand the process and arent just following some steps blindly. Nevertheless, to use vinegar you dont need to use a special tek of any kind, its just boiling the mimosa 3 or 4x with vinegar+water, straining/decanting/filtering each time and later putting the liquids together and discarding the solids. I guess this is the same as you would do with phosphoric acid, yes?

Have you tried at a supplystore for beerbrewing enthusiasts? They use it for washing the yeast! That's where I got mineSmile

bunnings definatly has it in the form of a rust conversion product sold near paints and spraypaints, though i have not seen the msds or any other information about the product, i know the hcl from bunnings has a trace amount of titanium dioxide in it but is otherwise hcl and water.

Hey mate, the food grade is only phosphoric acid if have managed to find so far, I would imagine this would be very diluted and just curious if it might be suitable.

I will check a few out, now I know I can say it is for washing yeast as said by Kodama Wink

To my knowledge this was done with a couple of alternatives, I don't know exactly what they were, but never the less it would be a worthy experiment.

Thanks for the link I will check it out!

This is my mission at the moment while I am out and about for work, I found the food grade stuff here http://www.grainandgrape...nfo.php?products_id=7493 I will probably buy a bottle and post back on this page to see if ts any good.

I will be checking out all local brew shops before I make a purchase, is there a certain grade I would look for?

that food grade phosphoric acid is probably perfect... Being foodgrade says nothing about it being diluted or not, but in any case do note that for extractions you anyways will dilute the acids, you dont need concentrated acids. That phosphoric you linked is probably perfect

okay i guess. titanium dioxide is a food additive and you find it in toothpaste and it is the white in pills, like medicine... though probably not good for the lungs, though i doubt it would be any worse than ciggarette additives say.
