Hi!

So afoaf has crystals that he wishes to recrystallize but he is wondering if he should do a carbonate wash before:

At the time he freeze preciped his crystals, some ice chunks formed in the bottom of the jar along with the spice, so he suspects some possible lye contamination. But he didn't pull any of the nasty purple water so I have no idea where the water is coming from. So my question is... is it really necessary to do a carbonate wash before or recrystallization only would be enough to clear the crystals? If there is indeed naoh left, would it recrystallize with the spice?

Also the crystals were kept in a sealed half pint jar in a dark room for 3 months, is there a chance of major potency loss or it shouldn't be noticable? I know fumarate is best for longterm use but afoaf had no time for conversion.

Thanks!
