Hello. So the materials available to me here are pickling lime and toluene.

Would it work to put some mimosa in CaOH + water, stir, then add toluene, let sit for a while. Remove the toluene, put toluene in a pan and allow the toluene to evaporate, and hopefully collect the spice?

Also, where are people buying d-limonene? Couldn't find it in stores. I would rather avoid extremely high shipping costs. Thanks.

Not sure about your tek, but if you're doing an acid/base then you don't want to fully evaporate the solvent. In fact generally that seems a bad idea, as you'll get impurities.

As for D-limonene, you can get it from www.jimjamshop.com, fairly cheap. And MHRB from there as well, so double up

Fumaric acid is available on ebay.

So if you have d-limo and fumaric acid, it's just a case of basifying the MHRB, so yes, CaOH should work, but in the BLAB it suggests using vinegar originally with the MHRB, I'd assume to start dissociating the alkaloids.

Just a quick word of caution on using Toluene


Toluene will work fine but you are going to need to stir or mix it in some way just letting it sit will not suffice, based on my experience in the lab toluene forms some of the nastiest emulsions i've ever seen. so watch a few tek videos and definitely roll or stir, shaking is out of the question.

In this tek it just says you mix CaOH with d-limonene and vinegar and extract the vinegar. No need for fumaric acid. I'd like to use as little as possible. What's the point of the furmaic acid anyway?

If I do have to use furmaic acid, luckily they do sell that at Canadian Tire.

The idea for this CaOH + toluene method came from reading lazyman's tek (straight to base). I'm just substituting Caoh for lye and toluene for naptha. I guess it's not that simple?

Thanks, that's definitely the cheapest price I've found for limonene, but shipping does not seem to be available to Canada, unfortunately (where I am) for any of the products sold there.
