Hello , first timer here. can dimethyl sulfoxide make for an effective extraction source?

Principally it is very good at dissolving anything - but that means it will dissolve way too much stuff that you anyways dont like to have in your final product. Because it can interact with most chemicals quite strongly, it is also mixable with all other solvents on earth, maybe simply not with some fluorinated oils. Lastly it will never evaporate - or only evaporate in months. It's boiling point is 180 °C, so a plate with a few drops DMSO will take ages to disappear.

Because of that there is no chance to ever use it reasonable in combination with bark. So far there is no application in any other common procedure with DMT that could make use of it :/

Is this perhaps even a misapprehension around the commonality of the term "dimethyl" in both compounds, i.e. the request being re "extraction source" rather than solvent? Dimethyl-something is only DMT when that "-something" is tryptamine. There are countless other dimethyl-compounds, none of which is N,N-DMT.

Quick quiz question: how many dimethyltryptamine isomers are possible?

And, yes - or no, rather - DMSO would indeed make for a problematic extraction solvent at best (although you did get some interesting results using it to recrystallise harmala alkaloids, didn't you, BW?)

“There is a way of manipulating matter and energy so as to produce what modern scientists call 'a field of force'. The field acts on the observer and puts him in a privileged position vis-à-vis the universe. From this position he has access to the realities which are ordinarily hidden from us by time and space, matter and energy. This is what we call the Great Work."

Probably that is a sign also that DMSO truly is a good solvent. All other stuff barely dissolves a lot of Harmalas and thus only DMSO can dissolve enough to drop it then again at -20 °C in a way to produce crystals Surprised
