So I have two identical jars. First pull worked out fine. Second pull one pulled clear. Second jar's soup level has risen and there is barely any yellow-orange naptha floating on top. Where did it all go? Do i need more lye or water? This is the lazy tek by the way.

Thanks for any help! I don't want to just lose 200 grams of precious root.

remember: if you didnt throw anyting away, nothing is lost Smile

Is there a third layer or just two? add more lye AND water, that should help... if there is a third layer in between, which is an emulsion, you can add plenty of salt and the layers should separate

Also, my yield came up very small compared to last time. My mix seems a lot thicker than last time. could this be the problem?

just the two layers i think. it's super dark so its hard to be sure theres nothing between the two. I'll give the more water and lye a shot now

More lye will fix it. Base it silly.

Still more lye?

I added more lye and water, definitely more lye to base like pokey said. And it is still not separating all that well. Very colored naptha. Is a lack of lye still my problem? It feels like I've already used more than last time... can i add lye slowly right to my soup? Not much room for more water. Also, can i dump the lye through the nap or do i have to remove that first?

what do you mean with 'coloured naphtha'? if its just more dense/yellow, its good! the problem is if its a foamy black/purple/grey layer and not a distinct naphtha layer on top...

how is the consistence of the mimosa soup, is it very dense or is it more watery?

It's very dark. Its not the gray emulsion you can get between the layers. The whole layer is a lot lighter of a shade, but the same color as the soup. Not foamy at all. The mixture was really thick and i thought that was just cause I had preground this time. It is quite a bit thicker than last time though. The containers are full though so i have to empty some out to add more water. What do i do about the dark nap on top then? Is that pretty much done for?

get another container, divide in two, add more water and lye.. it should separate... are you using same naphtha as last time? there's no reason why you should lose anything there.. More water, lye, hot water bath, salt and time, it will work

Thank you. I will be patient, I just didn't to lose out on my precious molecule! What is the salt for? Are we talking table salt?

Yup, table salt. Lots of it will do the trick for emulsions, but I've had really good luck with lots of lye curing emulsions and also making the solvent sperate really quickly and completely. Don't get discouraged, all is well if you don't dispose of anything! It's still in there, and we'll help you get it out.Very happy

Thank you for the help! The separation is much better now.

I was wondering one thing though. Rather than scraping my freeze precip and refilling the jar can i just add a fresh pull to a jar still coated with crystals to just have them continue growing on the existing DMT? I can't think of any reason this wouldnt work, but you never know.

You can, but they may redissolve in the naptha as it won't be freezing cold. You can also combine all your pulls and then evaporate some (til the naptha gets a little cloudy) before freezing. Having a jar that's mostly crystals, and not much naptha gives me a warm happy feeling!Very happy
