I just gotta say...If it comes down to what's greenest and the most sustainable for the earth...Bugs.

I'm becoming more and more interested in raising bugs as a primary protein source.

They take less land pound per pound than any other protein source and can be fed on almost entirely waste foodstuffs. They also have almost the exact same nutrient profile as beef and chicken only with even more vitamins and minerals.

There's a company that's perfecting a protein flour that's made of crickets and meant to be added to just about anything. Can't wait to see what it's like.

Bugs are likely to be the future if people can just get past the ick factor. Most indigenous tribe's diet consist larely of insects. We don't need to get rid of meat, we just need to learn as a planet is sustainable for the numbers of people we have and be happy with it.

Edit: I would just like to mention it was another thread on veganism on this site that got me looking more and more into bugs as a sustainable food source.

STS is a community for people interested in growing, preserving and researching botanical species, particularly those with remarkable therapeutic and/or psychoactive properties.

Do you have a source for this claim? I'm totally cool with ppl eating bugs, but personally, I'd rather avoid that stuff. Sick

My favorite when it comes to sustainability:

Quote:
Fusarium venenatum is a microfungus of the genus Fusarium that has a high protein content. One of its strains is used commercially for the production of the single cell protein mycoprotein.

Quote:
Protein Digestibility Corrected Amino Acid Score (PDCAAS) is a method of evaluating the protein quality based on both the amino acid requirements of humans and their ability to digest it. The PDCAAS rating was adopted by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations/World Health Organization (FAO/WHO) in 1993 as "the preferred 'best'" method to determine protein quality.

A PDCAAS value of 1 is the highest, and 0 the lowest. The table shows the ratings of selected foods.
1.00 casein (milk protein)
1.00 egg white
1.00 soy protein
1.00 whey (milk protein)
0.99 mycoprotein
0.92 beef
0.78 chickpeas
0.76 fruits

And this place has a whole list of resources at the bottom of it if you really want to dive in.

Nice, sounds like a good idea. Found a YT clip for those who need more visual input:

First time I ever switched to vegetarian was after my first psychedelic experience.

Almost all times afterwards I have switched, but eventually I go back to my regular diet, although it seems that over the years, perhaps due to the trips, the diet I have gets more and more selective.

Something else I noticed, perhaps tangentially related, but any times I have physically traveled to different parts of the world where one can experience cultural disillusionment, the tendency has been to switch over to a plant based diet.

I don't know if it's because I don't trust the food right off the bat and I'm doing it due to some safeguard mechanism, or if it's because part of my awareness is more awakened by the strange and foreign reality around me and then my more awakened awareness is somehow drawn to simpler / cleaner foods.

On the flip side of all of this, I have often done fasts or decided I need to be more careful about what I eat, and the result has often been an enrichment of the kind of subtle awareness of the intricacies and complexity of interconnections that the matrix of reality is build on... if that makes sense.

To myself at least I have proven that what you put in you (be it food or medicine or even ideas) has an effect on your perception and the abilities of your perception as well.

Cleaner diet = cleaner mind.
