Check out Hilight Tribe. Really cool crew that creates organic trance mostly on acoustic instruments. Killer live show. If you've been lucky enough to catch them at Boom in past years, you know what I mean. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ara2SWWe3cAIf you're getting into jazzy/improvisational flamenco guitar, definitely check out Paco De Lucia, John McLaughlin, and Al Di Meola (in that order, Paco for pure classic, John for trippy fusion, Al for tacky but technically impressive fusion). The three of them have performed and recorded together. Look for the famous album titled "Friday Night in San Francisco" for the seminal live performance of them together. I've seen them all live before. MASTERS of their art. Here's a clip of a song they've immortalized (Mediterranean Sundance): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9cadbYIzhqQIf you want to go deeper into psychedelic jazz, start going through the Miles Davis library, particularly his late 60s fusion years. Start with Bitches Brew, move on to Agartha, then Pangea, Dark Magus, and Black Beauty. I love all his old stuff also, just mentioning these as they're the most psychedelic (some heavy/dark stuff here though). Classic track from Agartha: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2gqXtWaEUZM**EDIT: Also, if you're into what's up in the SF Bay area nowadays, check out Beats Antique for the psychedelic, hipster, gypsy flavor (they're mostly acoustic/electric but they go all the way into electro glitch at times): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1behjE0hJP8Another SF Bay area artist of current note is Random Rab. Again, acoustic/electric but some electronic fusion. Very worth checking out regardless (more mellow, mind/soul music): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2gwfNlp68Rg(Both amazing acts to catch live, they hit the festival circuit in the States all summer, you can't miss them really.) Here is a project I've been envolved with since the early nineties . Most of the basic tracks were recorded in a remote location in Maine. You can download the tracks for free. I hope you enjoy .... http://bonobounit.bandcamp.com/ The only way of discovering the limits of the possible is to venture a little way past them into the impossible. Arthur C. I'm surprised no one has listed the P-Funk All Stars yet. I find that certain funk bands can hit the spot while on a journey. Maybe just me though. PS. On a side note, my current album of the year is done by the Glitch Mob called "Drink the Sea". It is electronica but not your typical sounding stuff. Has more of a hip hop break kinda feel to it. I quite like the Thirteenth Floor Elevators; their album 'The Psychedelic Sounds Of' is fantastic and I think they made the first track solely about our favorite compound called 'The Empty Place'. I also like a genre called 'digi-dub'-admittedly this isnt non-electronic or truly psychedelic but theres some fantastic stuff made in collaboration by Jah Shaka and The Disciples. If you can find it ,'The Lion' and 'Addis Adaba part 2' are wonderful. These albums with moderate doses of LSD go really well. I am paranoid of my brain. It thinks all the time, even when I'm asleep. My thoughts assail me. Murderous lechers they are. Thought is the assassin of thought. Like a man stabbing himself with one hand while the other hand tries to stop the blade. Like an explosion that destroys the detonator. I am paranoid of my brain. It makes me unsettled and ill at ease. Makes me chase my tail, freezes my eyes and shuts me down. Watches me. Eats my head. It destroys me.

Well I saw Rodrigo y Garbiela live recently, and although I wasn't in a higher state of mind, they were awesome nonetheless, so thanks for introducing me to their music ThirdEyeVision.

Smile by the Beach Boys is extremely psychedelic. You should all check it out. Too bad it never truly came out 44 years ago...

Thanks for the recommendations. Alas no one on here has mentioned Quintessence...some fantastic shmastic Cosmic Rock (for lack of better description) founded by Raja Ram of Shpongle fame back in the late 60's. Here's a video of them playing at the Glastonbury Festival. Check out the drummer, he looks to be on a substantial dose of Uncle Hoff's magic potion, and Raja Ram at 1:25 : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6YaKHFQEPD0And here's one off their classic album entitled "Self", with Raja Ram himself on the flute. Very good vibes, obviously psychedelically-inspired. Feels like being at the ocean in the bright, warm summer. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5DiCJyFpmk4I also enjoy live Grateful Dead music; it has certainly stood the test of time. Here's a gorgeous live version of "Ripple", suitable to calm you down and give you a gentle hand to hold during a rough patch of a journey (or life). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lVdTQ3OPtGYI also dig some jazz, especially John Coltrane, and for kicks, "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" (originally an old African tune with deep meaning) is a great one to sing along if you're tripping by a fire at night with a bunch of friends. Only did this once but it was quite an experience. "...I didn't know that Cheshire cats always grinned; in fact, I didn't know that cats could grin..." - Alice's Adventures in Wonderland

For something a bit more recent: I discovered an album named Fever by the band Sleepy Sun recently. Was pleasantly surprised by the epic-ness of some of its tracks.

Anyone have some suggestions for good folk music? And I don't mean Dylan, but stuff like genuine Irish folk or the likes.

Spatial Dementia. My personal favorite Irish folk band (more like Irish Anarcho-Folk) is a band called 'McDermotts 2 Hours'.The lyrics are poetic and fascinatingly intelligent.Their works include: The Enemy Within-a real classic but you'd do well to find a copy. Claws and Wings-less punky than The Enemy, but excellent nonetheless. All Kinds of Disorder-my personal favorite. Goodbye to the Madhouse-also very very good. World Turned Upside Down- in collaboration with the Levellers-also absolutely brilliant. Quote:Anyone have some suggestions for good folk music? Well, try this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QdNZzj_p8zUAnd continue on the links if you like it. 4.3 is also very good. This was a free gig in Hungary (2006) where the biggest local folk/jazz names played for the crowd. Not pure folk music, but the roots are there.

I'll be coming out with an acoustically based psychedelic record in half a year or so. I'll post it here when it's done, look out for it!! I am awake in a dream called reality.
