Where do you guys recommend purchasing salvia cuttings from? Other than Salvia I plan on growing: San Pedro, P. Torch, T. Cuzcoensis, (already sitting outside in the sun), Ipomoea Tricolor, Ipomoea Purpurea, Maybe some others as well, haven't fully decided yet. “Surrender is inner acceptance of what is without any reservations. elru, have you successfully gotten peganum harmala to grow from seed? I tried a few times last year and had no success. If you know how to get these guys to grow please let me know, I would be very appreciative if you could. “Surrender is inner acceptance of what is without any reservations. I've got three P. Harmalas (Syrian Rue) growing atm. They are about 1 inch high which is about where everyone says they stall in growth, fall over, and die. We will see. I used regular miracle grow potting soil and germinated them in moist soil with plastic wrap over the pot. They were on a table by a window though I read to germinate them in the dark if I remember. However they seem to have sprouted just fine in daylight. I will post back if they live or die but I will try not to hijack the thread! This spring my indoor entheo garden (ok, it's a bay window) contains four little Lophophora Williamsii that I bought as buttons last year, three Trichocerous Pachanoi (I think - could be Peruvianus), two enormous but rather tatty looking Salvias who are due a trim, and one little caapi seedling that I grew from seed last year - the sole survior of about 30! So there you go; The Four Plants of Easter* (similar to the Twelve Days of Christmas but with fewer leaping lords/partridges/etc.) And I've just sown some Morning Glory + Papaver Somiferum outside

What strain of Papaver Somniferum are you all using? I have Papaver Somniferum seeds that I bought at a garden centre but I know they won't be a high yield hair dye strain.

My papaver s. was "Paeony Black" from a local garden centre (pack of seeds)...I dunno about the dye-making qualities of this one - the picture on the front of the packet looked pretty, but "Hen & Chickens" is one of the top rated for dyeing.
Did you plant seeds or seedlings Elru?

when i moved into my house it already had some Heavenly Blue Morning Glories growing along the fence out front. There was also a lovely Passion Flower vine which i always thought of as the "Butterfly Vine".... how little i knew a couple of years ago. I DO enjoy seeing all the butterflies every summer though. We recently got a cutting of Salvia which was half dead when we got it and is doing OK now, after giving her much love and attention - although there's some kind of gnat in the soil now that i have to deal with. We also have 2 San Pedro cactus growing. One is about 5 feet tall and it has 2 pups that are around 4 feet, one around 3 feet, and it just popped out another pup that's just a few inches tall. The other San Pedro is around 28" - he is the newest addition to our garden. Where i live in So Cal, there are San Pedros all over the place... seems like all my neighbors have em - some are quite large too. I am planning on planting some cannabis, but i plan on attending a grow class first - i lived in apartments all my life so i am new to this gardening thing!

HBFrank - I had the same issues with some kind of knats with all my plants including my salvia. I finally brome down and applied just a little bit of generic insecticide. I'm hoping this will not come back to bite me later somehow affecting the purity of the entheos. Smoking insecticides is not somethi.g that seems fun. However the bottle said you could apply it the day of harvest including herbs and veggies. Hoping a good wash will be all that's needed. Just an update. Unfortunately as I expectex all my Syrian Rue seedlings dried up and died. I didn't give them any special care though, just planted them and waited to see what happened. Better luck next time. Thanks Psikotrope - i feel a bit better knowing it isn't just me. I was sure i must have done something wrong. What, i don't know LOL. i found a pesticide made from chrysanthemums that's supposed to be perfectly safe. I guess since it's made from a flower it pretty much must be. It's called Pyrethrum and it's the main ingredient in several brands you'll find in the stores. It might even be in the one you're using.
I also just read something about the gnats having some kind of larvae in the soil and they supposedly eat at the roots of your plant. To get rid of them you're supposed to use something called Thuricide. It is a larvae/worm/caterpillar pesticide. You dilute it (1 tbs to 1 qt water) and wash all the soil in your pot with it and it kills the larvae. I just found this out earlier today - so i hope it helps you as well as anyone else finding these little buggers in their plants...
sorry to hear about your Rue... next time'll be the ticket!!

HBFrank - Yea! Thats the main compound in my insecticide. Thanks for bringing that back to mind. I had read once what your saying about the natjral source. That puts me at ease. I was having trouble believing the claim that it was safe yet caused genocide on insectoids, lol. If I repot my sally I will look into treating the soil as you say. I've also heard sterilizing by first baking the soil in the oven for a time is a good idea to kill all the dormant nasties. No big deal on the Rue. I had a large bag for harmala extraction so I thought what tbe hell I'll plant a few and see what happens. I wasn't even sure theg were viable. Now that I knkw they are their valhe has went up! Typos, typos. That's what I get for using a touch screen and not spellchecking. :/ Psikotrope AKA Hanuman Dass http://hanumandass.wordpress.com A blog on nonduality, entheogens, and other such topics. no worries on the typos.. i didn't see any spelling police here today i felt pretty good knowing it was from a natural source too, but i also wondered if it would be effective. it must be though it's in a lot of products. Good idea on baking the soil - but it's too late for that now. If i repot or do another cutting however.... I also saw something else interesting on another site (specific to Salvia cultivation, which is down right now for maintenance or something) and on it someone said you could top the soil with sand - like aquarium sand - and then the little buggers can't get into the soil in the first place. Once i've gotten rid of them, i'm thinking of trying it out. but first a trip to my local home improvement store is in order so i can get some of that Pyrethrin. Hmmmmm.... i have some Rue seeds as well, and it IS Spring - i may have to try to see if they'll germinate!

So I decided to throw a few grams of Syrian rue seeds in a pot, wet the soil and covered them with a piece of plastic. They sat on my window seal (north facing window) for a couple weeks, and I forgot about them. Today I saw the pot and decided to look in it. To my surprise there was two little seedling stretching for the sun, and I have never even gotten these bad boys/girls to sprout before. Now they are enjoying the full sun outside. I sowed the seeds in 'FoxFarm Ocean Forest' soil, burying some of the seeds deep, some shallow, and some on top of the soil. Lets hope they don't die on me now. Click for bigger version. My cat happened to work her way into the shot as well. “Surrender is inner acceptance of what is without any reservations. Well it’s not spring anymore, but my collection is growing and I haven’t killed anything yet (I think I got close with the Salvia though)! Rivea Corymbosa Salvia Divinorum Trichocereus Bridgessii Trichocereus Pachanoi Trichocereus Peruvianus Next on my list is getting and germinating some Loph seeds, attempting to germinate some Peganum Harmala and Anadenanthera Colubrina (I don’t have high hopes for Cebil long-term survival in the UK climate!). Think this winter I will be building a seed collection for the coming spring, I’ve been really enjoying growing from seed, very satisfying.

Time for a bump. I've been at this hobby for twenty year or so now, so I've ammassed a pretty good collection, all in the name of psychedelic self-suffieciency. My garden currently includes (in no particular order): B. caapi 'Cielo' P.viridis P.alba Delosperma bosseranum Heima salicifolia Heimia myrtifolia Piper auritum Catha edulis Alicia anisopetala Salvia d. Blosser clone Salvia d. H&W clone L.williamsii texanensis L.w. caespitosa L. koehresii L. jourdiana Mimosa hostilis Mimosa verrucosa Acacia confusa Acacia maidenii Brugmansia sp. Mitragyna speciosa Ilex paraguayensis Ilex vomitoria Calea zacatechichi Alternanthera lehmanii Anadenanthera peregrina var. cebil E. novoganatense Three different Passiflora varieties And the Trichs: pachanoi (PC, ayacucho and matucana) peruvianus (generic and matucana) short-spined peruvianus Juul's Giant colosus bridgesii- five or six named clones plus Montrosus clone B terscheckii uyupampensis santensis scopulicola macrogonus riomizquensis And a bunch of crosses that I don't have a list of at the moment. I may have missed a few but you get the idea. Some of these are adult size, like the Pv while others like the M. verrucosa are still just seedlings. Have a bunch of seeds to sprout too, but that'll have to be another post... [EDIT 8/3/13 to add:] Ilex guayusa Piper betel Banisteriopsis mathiasae Alpinia galangal Psychotria poeppigiana Voacanga africana Mucuna pruriens I already asked Alice.

I have some cactus seedlings, my one grafted peyote and an aquired mistreated bridgesii cutting (it was growing roots out of its thin snakelike stalk in a TEENY TINY bonsai pot..i have saved it and transplanted it and now it looks like its growing!) the leaves you gave me are doing ok, some of them got root rot even though ALL of them shot out roots like crazy, but I gave them some nice sterile soil and washed them off and it's getting hotter here, so hopefully they will survive! All the leaves are still green with a little browning/mouldiness on the top so hopefully when its consistantly sunny they will just get bigger.. sadly my ayahuasca looks like it's kicking the bucket. winter was too hard for it here. They don't think it be like it is, but it do.

This year my salvia divinorum (la fuerza), caapi (red), and psychotria (alba) are all getting chopped up into dozens of little clones. Many will be gifted away to friends, the rest will be grown out for the season and harvested in the fall, a few will come in to overwinter and start the process again next year. All the phalaris (big medicine, aq1, turkey red, and yugo red) will also be getting cut up into clones for sharing, with one of each strain getting planted permanently in the ground. A couple weeks ago I planted like 4 different varieties of morning glories and 3 types of tobacco as well as some other interesting things like mucuna pruriens, rhodiola rosea, salvia apiana, and datura stramonium. Really my focus this year is more geared toward food, mainly heirloom vegetables and various edible and medicinal herbs. However, I do intend to start a few more acacias and some mimosa hostilis this year, as well as add a whole bunch of mature bridgesii to my cactus collection. So haapi it's springtime again.

So far, I have: T. Bridgesii seedlings (about a month old) Trichocereus "Lumberjack" seedlings (about a month old) A 6 inch tall T. Bridgesii T. Peruvianus "Matucana" seedlings (about 1 year old) T. Peruvianus "Ancash" seedlings (about 1 year old) Psychotria Alba (waiting patiently for germination) Acacia Acuminata, narrow phyllode var. (just put the seeds in water tonight) Psilocybe Cubensis Psilocybe Cyanescens (still on agar, cleaning from wild print) Soon to add P. Caerulescens var. Weilii (from wild print) And I just checked my B. Caapi (Cielo) seeds today and found that all 3 of them had sprouted! That put a huge smile on my face And as soon as I can source a cutting and make room in my tiny little garden, I plan on adding salvia divinorum as well
