Burnt, I don't think your paranoid. Many "Great" societies end up with the government or dictator trying to establish a totalitarianistic dominance over his subjects. It is only natural that it would happen to us. The only problem is that there is enough technology that a government might actually be able to pull it off.

But on an important note, how can we get a back-up copy of the site? I'm downloading some other forums right now but I remember the Traveler saying about people not being able to download the nexus.

No kidding. I think most Americans I know feel like that very strongly, even those who would never normally take political action. Such a change to the USA would be against the very nature of being American and would symbolize the death of America. It cannot be allowed. Being American means having freedom of religion, freedom of the pursuit of happiness and most importantly freedom of information. Without having freedom of information, this would no longer be America in my eyes.

i have a feeling that my school is blocking the nexus. would never try and post from there but was trying to play some space invaders from the fun-games link on the main page. all of the other tabs on the fun page other than programs yielded an 500 internal server error. were there some server problems yesterday traveler?

I believe probably 80% of the military forces would NOT DO ANYTHING. Contrary to popular belief they are not just a bunch of yes men that would kill their own fellow Americans, their own family members, who would be fighting to keep their Americans rights. I’ve worked in the military before. Many of these people love their family and love the American people more than they love the government and would be willing to fight internal corruption. You would see a massive amount of people in the military refuse their orders and possibly see the military turn on the government.

I've got family and friends in the military, and alot of them are turned off by the government after having spent time in Iraq, Afganistahn, and Korea. They just want to finish their duties and resume their life. If the Government ever started taking away the rights of Americans, these are the type of people that would lead the angry mob.

This has certainly happened in some revolutions. I love it when this happens- when the guards/army/police just open the gates and let the protestors drive out a corrupt government. Although I don't know if they choose this themselves or have been ordered to do so by sympathetic higher ranks.

There's no way that huge collections of sites are going to be shut down--not in the western democracies. Certainly not in America, where the first amendment still holds very strong sway with courts.

It can possibly be done in VERY specific cases, but it would take at least a court hearing to accomplish. If they ever tried to do that for every site that talked about drugs....it would just be impossible. It can be illegal to PROMOTE a crime, but just talking about "crimes" is not generally considered "promoting" them. There's an AWFUL LOT of free speech on the internet...there's no way that they'll be interested in coming HERE, to this psychedelic backwater, and giving us trouble.
