Same thing happens in Africa, some borders come under environmental protection which leaves them open to smugglers. Sounds like a big scam to keep the gold rush going, be that drugs, arms, whatever makes money. Im reading a book just now called Outlaws inc about the many smuggling routes around the world, the politics involved, people involved. It focuses on ex russian military and their cargo planes, the same flight delivering aid could also be carrying drugs and guns, interesting book!
