as a soldier one is at risk of an instantaneous case of severe lead poisoning, not to mention suicide bombers and IEDs along with countless other risks like catching an RPG with ones teeth - sounds kinda stressful to me - i dont think anyone has the right to tell a soldier what he can/cant do to relieve combat stress on HIS spare time after a hard day of military combat

That has always been my sound opinion... There are plenty of disastrous things that can happen to a soldier (Being one deployed in a combat environment right now, i speak from experience...) Preventing, or imposing a prohibition of a substance really only makes him more curious about it from my experience. This unfortunately leads soldier's to experiment with substances that give quick reliable highs that get out of the system in a relatively short time frame. The damage that most of these aforementioned substances deal the body never comes into the mind set, where as marijuana takes 13 to 40 some days to exit the system depending on usage habits and weight. But has no known negative lasting side effects on the body.

That's exactly how I feel. I see people in my unit doing coke and painkillers on weekends because they know they will be able to pass a UA come next week. And they are moking spice and having panic attacks and freakouts when it would be so much safer to just let them smoke pot. Even alcohol is much more destructive and I would say 80% of the people in my unit drink much more than they should. Now if you show up to work high, then there's a problem and I think that would be grounds for punishment or dismissal. And the same thing would (and does) happen if you show up to work drunk. But I know the policy is never going to change unless its another step backwards.

to make a long story short, the military sucks ass. You sign your life away and become the property of a bunch of gun happy psychopaths.
Long live the unwoke.
