Okay, the reason I mentioned the NASA thing because it was simply the latest tidbit of news I got that involved people randomly shooting tons of nasty garbage into the atmosphere without care or consent... related to the topic of my original post.
As for NASA, feel free to "not believe" me, but I was simply quoting what they posted on their website, nasa.gov:
"The experiments on the Terrier-Improved Orion rockets will release lithium in the ionosphere. "But again, this isn't about NASA, it's just about people screwing with the planet left, right, and center, with no disregard to anything or anyone that is making me upset.
Anyway, thanks everyone who had something thoughtful to say. I'm still really angry right now... my work intersected tonight with a conference of doctors discussing the spike in the infant mortality rate (so I couldn't even drown my agony in the meaningless repetition of VISA transactions)... but I'm still looking for inspiration.
I have the next two days off and some tickets to Shpongle.
I understand that worry, fear, anger, and disgust are all REALLY BAD feelings to have, but at the same time I can't help but experience them.
Worst case scenario, I could always join Greenpeace.
And/or become a supervillain.
There probably IS a breaking point where more people will start to care, but what does it require? I hope time is on our side.
I also used to be surrounded by a huge circle of friends where we could A) do lots of awesome, positive environmental awareness stuff all the time and B) talk about these things endlessly, but now I really have nobody around me to share this part of my soul with, so, thanks.
Some things will come easy, some will be a test
