Fuck yes good sir Smile That's one of, if not my favourite film ever.

I'd also like to add "Horton hears a who" Smile

Great lesson to be learned there, plus it makes me all jolly and warm inside.

There's also a beautifully animated anime' series named "Mushishi" about a healer. There's not really a continuing storyline as such and the only consistant character is just the one guy, so it's not a series you have to watch all in a line. Really good when you want to experience 20 minutes of wonder once in a while. Also the opening theme is beautiful. I think I'll post it in the "music that gets you through life" thread Smile

Hi Pau,

I see that you enjoy good cinema.
I got fascinated by Japan history and culture some time ago, specially 'EDO' period of history, empire ruled by shogunate for 400 years, samurai, first foreigners...
So I searched for cinema with that reference. And I found whole genre (I forgot how it is called) into which I got literally addicted. I'm talking about 'Lone Wolf and Cub' manga and films, 28 movies with 'Zatoichy', 'Oshi Samurai', Kurosawa's 'Yojimbo', 'Seven samurai' and so on...Zatoichy was my favorite hero Cool

When it comes to war movies I got literally 'hit' by 'Ningen no jôken' (Human Condition I,II,III), which I consider to be one of the best war saga ever shot.

This year I watched two Korean movies which I liked : 'Castaway on the Moon' and 'Joint Security Area'
I will check those movies you mention and try to watch them. Thanks
And 'Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring' is really great. Ki-duk Kim's auto reflection (the grown up man coming back from prison finding temple empty (Winter) is director him self. And whole circle of life starts again Wink )

Regards,

'Life is an illusion designed to keep your mind occupied while you are digested by God.'

ah, how did I forget City of God....phenomenal film
My mind craves nectar day and night.
Like a blue lotus floating on the sea of love.
Lingering in ashantic realms
Lingering in the akashic realms
Lingering in, lingering in the realms.
Blue lotus floats, floating, floating..
Some laugh, some weep, some dance for joy.
My mind craves nectar day and night.

Have any of ya'll checked out "The Fall", it is a very imaginitative story with amazing landscapes, and many mystic themes.

I'm very fond of Japanese anime, which I find to be the deepest and most sophisticated reflection on the spiritual problems of Western society today. Japan was invaded by Western culture after WW2. The marriage of the samurai ethic with western corporate culture led them to become the most advanced technological civilization on Earth. But this also made them the first to meet the latent neuroses and psychopathology of the Western mind. With the help of their spiritual background in Shinto and Zen, they can give us more accurate reflections on these issues than our own folks.

Some of the masterpieces I know of (these are all anime series):

Serial Experiments: Lain
Haibane Renmei
Mushishi
Death Note
The Last Exile
Neon Genesis Evangelion

And Hayao Miyazaki's truly exceptional work:

Howl's Moving Castle
My Neighbor Totoro
Kiki's Delivery Service
Spirited Away

All of these are brilliant.

'Shadowlands' is a very beautyfull movie that has about as much meaning as a movie can have.
The best way i can advertise this movie is by saying that anthony hopkins was never better than in this movie.

'Der untergang' is also a must-see movie. It speaks almost for itself that it is the most relevant of all war-movies ever made. I watched this movie in germany when it was just released and the atmosphere in the movie-theater was just something i will never forget. You have no idea how many people left the theater in tears.

I find 'natural born killers' the most LSD-like movie i have ever seen. The first time i saw it i was totally sober, but i almost started feeling like i had taken something, just by watching it, just like you may sometimes feel like you've taken something just by hanging out with a person on psychedelics.

I can only guess by that list you haven't seen "Monster"?

I loved the animation in Lain. I also liked how it wasn't as much a story as a series of philosophy's. Though I find Monster to be the most profound. Mushishi's one of my favourite's also. Death note too... but for different reason... F'n love L Smile

If you want to see something really funny then check out Black Dynamite. It's a parody of the 70' blaxploitation movies and it's the funniest shit I've seen in a looooong time Smile The main character is by far the coolest dude ever to appear on the white screen Smile Hahaha I start to laugh just thinking about some scenes from this movie Smile

Highly recommended Smile

Here's three not yet mentioned which I find particularly useful for the Nexians here

Being There
The Holy Mountain (Jodorowsky)
The Sacrifice (A. Tarkovsky)

All these films have left me speechless. Also all of them only deliver their ultimate message in the end. The Sacrifice is particularly heavy. I saw it when it came out in a theater and as I was leaving it was the rush hour in a pretty busy city. But to me there was no noise, no lights, no cars, no people, nothing. It was like a new reality had been unfolded and I was floating around observing undisturbed the lower plane of physicality.

HAHA!!! Black Dynamite is one of my all time favorites. It absolutely is the funniest movie in a very long time. It's a shame so few people know about it.

Yep it's weird how few people have seen it or heard of it. When I saw it last saturday I couldn't believe I didn't notice it when it was in theaters last year.
I'm looking forward to see it again some day Smile

HOME

The first two are great for introspection and personal growth. Home has some of the most amazing natural cinematography of the Earth that I've seen, and a good message about what we are truly doing to this planet of ours.
What, you ask, was the beginning of it all?
And it is this...

Existence that multiplied itself
For sheer delight of being
And plunged into numberless trillions of forms
So that it might
Find
Itself
Innumerably.
-Sri Aubobindo

Saidin is a fictional character, and only exists in the collective unconscious. Therefore, we both do and do not exist. Everything is made up as we go along, and none of it is real.

AVATAR

Just was this again at home on DVD and its an amazing cinematic and spiritual experience. If you have a chance to see it in really good 3D - hopefully theatrically, it is a truly immersive environment that you step into or swim inside for about 3 hours. Seriously, the 3D world they created has so many levels and particulate materials floating around in front of you that you actually feel like you have been transported to someplace else with depth and a thickness about it, almost like being underwater. There are some very powerful spiritual nature messages throughout and multiple levels of storylines and themes going on. The world they create looks incredible. I swear I even noticed mushrooms and cactuses in key scenes. Look for yourself. One of the major themes is about waking up and becoming conscious of something greater than yourself, the web of life around us. Check it out, especially if your are in an altered state.
