I always feel its a contradiction, though, the people that are 'alternative' and against big industries, against mainstream things, or even vegetarian people and so on, but that smoke cigarretes..

I have noticed this too, and I actually smoke on and off. My hypothesis is that there is a correlation between the genes coding for addictive-seeking behavior and alternative thinking. Just think about it, people that need in more or less extent to modify or escape from reality, tend to have a higher concentration of alternative thoughts than main-stream. Or am I completely wrong here?

Who knows, there might be some truth in what you say.. but I generally tend to avoid these kind of genetic explanations as they can be disempowering and are many times used as an excuse (not talking about you, just in general)..

I believe that one should try to really live his ideas and that one's own philosophy of life be expressed in every action.. So if one is 'alternative' but smokes cigarrete, imo thats a negative contradiction and, (not being judgemental on any of you but just really honest to what I believe in), I feel smoking cigarretes is a barrier against one's own personal/spiritual development, just like eating fastfood and so on...

but again, as long as you throw the cigarrete butts on the garbage and try to be conscious if you're not blowing the smoke in the direction of someone eating or whatever, then its one's own business....

If in spite of that, this person continues smoking than it's very unfortunate that your friend lacks any real spine.

What if she likes smoking? I believe there is nothing inherently wrong with smoking – I just dislike the addiction.

You're right. I was assuming that smokers don't want to die of cancer and don't want to be addicted to something inherently unhealthy.

Most smokers i know fall in this category (in that they actually want to stop but lack the spine), but maybe to some people smoking is just a means for comitting euthanasia.

I personally believe that smoking a small amount is no worse than walking around a busy city. I like to smoke. I see no real problem with it except the deep addiction it can create. I am currently trying to abstain as much as possible and over the past week have smoked at most 10% of my normal intake – 3 cigarettes/joints a day. With the extreme reduction in smoking I have done I feel very little craving and feel quite comfortable with smoking.

My mother smokes about 3 cigarettes a day and I would like to be able to do that myself. Choose when to do it, rather than be forced to. On the health side my mother recently had a physical and was told by the person doing it “You have obviously never smoked a cigarette in your life” – she has been smoking for 45 years!

I just quit a few days ago. Got some tree tobacco (nicotine-less) and gonna order some mullien cause I heard it helps clean your lungs. First night I woke up with my teeth killing me. I must have been clenching my jaw all night in my sleep. Been taking some magnesium cause it's supposed to calm the nervous system and have not experienced that again. At first it's kind of a shock to the system but after the first few days it starts to feel good to make that positive change. I quit with a few friends at the same time. That support helps. I say, at the least you really should smoke additive free cigarettes if you care about your health. Winston's are the best tasting in this regard IMO. Not the "Platinum" packs which have additives.

I have found caapi leaf to be invaluable in the mission to take control of my habitual smoking of tobacco and weed. When I felt the need to smoke I just rolled up a joint of that instead. I managed 4 days on nothing but caapi joints. They don’t taste nice (may be beneficial) but they do the job and seem to chill you out rather nicely too.
