Hey

I have read on several threads: "Beware of underdose".

Why would it be bad to underdose? Does it give strange effects when the dose is too low?
What else could be said about minimal dose/underdose (not in quantitative aspects)?

Good quality Syrian rue (Peganum harmala) for an incredible price!

Some people report (and I am one of them) that low doses of DMT are just underwhelming and dysphoric. Frequently one will have to wait 20-30 minutes before trying again, which can become aggravating if you only have a certain amount of quiet time. Others don't seem to have any adverse reaction to an underdose.

On the other hand, an overdose of DMT, while not life threatening, is possibly one of the most difficult experiences I have gone through.

In my experience, an "underdose" constitutes dosages eliciting intense blastoff without breaching the breakthrough threshold. Like acolon said, dysphoria in this state can be extremely unsettling.

For this reason, I suggest that you start with minimal doses (providing that you have ample spice). This will allow you to ascertain the physiological effects without jarring you too much.

are all under doses normally unpleasant? I feel like this is what happens when I have bad trips from spice, but I ALWAYS manage to get 3 to 4 hits. I don't see how I'm not breaking through.

Some people have been on the ride for a long time, and they begin to question: Is this real, or is this just a ride? And other people have remembered, and they come back to us, they say, "Hey - don't worry, don't be afraid, ever, because, this is just a ride." - Bill Hicks

Changa underdoses tend to be fine, IME... changa is overall great. With freebase, tho, one's body just gets all wound up for the breakthrough/visuals, but then nothing happens and all that energy is rattling around.

I have yet to experience breakthrough, So as of now I am only familiar with underdose or sub-breakthrough doses. From my experience they seem to range from euphoric, visually stimulating - almost like a low grade acid with more of a clean feeling or when what seems like the failed attempt leads to on the border of breaktrhough and induces illness and dysphoria. Which to me seems to be aroused by the discomfort of being torn between two worlds.

I have yet to have a breakthrough, everything is very fuzzy and unclear, I can only notice small things visually but the feeling is extremely euphoric. Can it be that I am not mentally prepared?

I believe it to be a matter of set, and setting. If youre not in the right place physically then a breakthrough will be distracted. My first breakthrough came unexpectedly. An MAOI also helps to induce a breakthrough, something like 10x b. caapi or 10x passionflower. Under dosing, or sub-breakthroughs are quite common among first timers, especially if there is anxiety within that person, but i don't find it to be a "bad" thing. For me, it was mere preparation. We will all get there if it is meant to be.....

I respectfully disagree, acolon, i have smoked good amounts of spice with no breakthrough. Again, i believe my set, and setting detoured the breakthrough.

I highly doubt it. Set and setting are important and can definatily play a role in how one responds to a breakthrough etc..but I dont find that they play such a large role in the assimilation of the molecule that you will vape, say 50mg and not have it happen. If you arent in the right place those when it does happen..it can be rough, to say the least.
Long live the unwoke.

I found some more thoughts on the difficulties which could arise when underdosing.

Using Psychedelics Wisely, Myron J. Stolaroff wrote:

DEALlNG WITH THE SHADOW
As Jung indicated, the Shadow holds all the material that we have pushed aside so we can hide from ourselves. Unfortunately, it also contains much of our energy, and as long as it is unconscious, it exerts a powerful influence on our behavior without our knowing it. Furthermore, Shadow material is responsible for most of the difficulties humans create in the world. We project our Shadow onto others, believe those others to be the source of our difficulties, and seek refuge from them rather than taking responsibility in our own hands. Consequently we must resolve Shadow material if we are to develop. If this were accomplished on a widespread basis, it would be a major benefit for the world.
[...]
Many do not like to use low doses because these feelings come to the surface. Rather than experience them, they use larger doses to transcend them. But these uncomfortable feelings are precisely what we must resolve to free ourselves from the Shadow, gain strength and energy, and function more comfortably and competently in the world. By using smaller amounts and being willing to focus our full attention on whatever feelings arise and breathe through them, we find that these feelings eventually dissolve, often with fresh insight and understanding of our personal dynamics. The release of such material permits an expansion of awareness and energy. If we work persistently to clear away repressed areas, we can enter the same sublime states that are available with larger doses—with an important additional gain. Having resolved our uncomfortable feelings, we are in a much better position to maintain a high state of clarity and functioning in day-to-day life.

I learn from this, that low dose DMT can dig suppressed feelings out of unconsciousness, which might be uncomfortable at least. At the same time, dealing with these feelings can help developing further. Whereas higher doses shift you in a way above these feelings, that you still may see them, but you do not actually feel them. This could be more pleasant in a way, but probably less pushing into working out those unconfortable areas.

Anyway, I guess starting with 30mg DMT Freebase for Vaporizing looks like a reasonable dose to start...

Awww Runes, I've been looking for that quote for ages! For some reason I had convinced myself it was in The Secret Chief. I definitely feel sympathy with this attitude. SWIM spent a solid couple of months going through what seemed like energetic recalibrations using small amounts of changa.

I have had six sub breakthrough doses of freebase dmt. Only one was unpleasant, it was nearly a break through so it was extremely intense but i was still aware of who i was, which is why i think it was scary. My other five doses where smaller and where what i have heard described as sky diving. These were extremely euphoric and fun, visuals similar to mushrooms but more intense, if slightly disappointing since i had been attempting to break through on most of them.
Im actually glad i had sub breakthrough doses before i experienced the real thing. those experiences assuaged my fears

I have only had underdose sub breakthroughs and they have been incredible, massive euphoria with varying degrees of visuals. Absolutely no dysphoria in my personal experience.

How low is too low a dose?
Too low a dose might not produce any effect.

I think it's a matter of set & setting.

If you aren't familiar with the substance, low doses can be unsettling.

There can be anxiety with low-doses, because you never know if you accidentally take more than you intended. Either way,
I don't think that low-doses automatically mean you will have an unpleasant experience. That's is all up to your set & setting.

I've dosed high, medium, and low. And I prefer low doses sometimes, because I don't want to breakthrough all the time.
Sometimes I just like to enjoy a short light-trip.

As long as you go into a trip with 'good' intentions, then you should be fine. I find that having a positive intention before
embarking on a trip can transform an excruciating experience to an awe-filled blissful jolly experience.

Cheers.

Sometimes when I underdose I get a good trip and a meditative state of mind when coming down. But usually when I underdose I just get some annoying effects and feel a bit frustrated afterwards. But that's usually when I'm stressed or tired. That's why I nowdays only trip DMT when I'm well rested and relaxed. Nothing bothering me.
