I was wondering if I could do a simple no heat recrystalization.

Put dirty spice in vial..add Distilled water...swirl to separate spice from junk...add diethyl ether...shake till pure spice dissolves in ether...draw off ether...evaporate slowly(diethyl ether has very low boiling point and will evaporate rather quickly at room temp)...leaving pure spice crystals???

Would this work???

how would you aspirate it if it boils at room temp? Wouldn't it become a gas instantly?

Spice is rather soluble in ethyl ether. I dunno if it can be crsytallized from it.

Diethyl ether boils at around 35C, which is above 90F. So it is not going to boil away instantly at room temperature unless done in a desert environment.

I don't know if this purification will work right off, but my biggest concern about using diethyl ether is its insane flammability. A tiny amount of ether vapor can find a spark (electric switch, static electricity, pilot light, etc.) on the other side of the room and cause the whole container of ether to burst into flame. Therefore, it is quite dangerous to work with unless in a laboratory setting with appropriate fume hood, or else possibly outside would be safe.

Exactly...only the spice would dissolve in the ether leaving all the junk behind in the water...once drawn off the ether would quickly evaporate at room temperature leaving behind pure spice crystals...and if one wanted bigger crystals the ether could be evapped much slower in a colder setting formimg larger crystals...the same way Freebase Cocaine was done in the 80s with home kits...

Shouldnt this work???

Seems like it should, provided the impurities aren't soluable. Try it out and let us know.
