I don't know if my words were of any use or not - but networking and discussing these ideas on the DMT-Nexus is completely a choice and a volunteer service. Payment? Our opinions are voiced in anonymity without direct scrutiny (unless phrased in an ill mannered form.)

So, can I ask what specific values you are looking for, in a shaman? Are you wanting the ceremonial experience? Metaphysical experience? An outlet to explore DMT orally?

You mention reassurance. Let's assume you have a person. What is the ideal response that would aid in reassurance?

Those are a few questions. If you value a shaman for a different service, do you mind sharing?

Take care,
ACY

I second what FranLover just pointed out, follow plants, not gurus. Be your own shaman.

problem is poeple dedicated to this full time also, like you, pay rent or buyt heir land, buy food and all tools, pay taxes or gas oil, car, insurances ...
So I get what you mean, like you work for moeny but the "shaman" or "healer" shoudl just work for free, but if you talk to them, you'll see they are all human with human life.... SO maybe you'll go deep inthe jungle and try find a remote and living off the grid one that will jsut ask you to help out for cutting woods, hunting, foraging and taking care of everything a tribe or an ermit will need to sustain himself outside of our accomodations ...

Its like artists, exactly, they are often asked to do a show for free, like, they are giving all their time and energy to their art, but are supposed to beg for food and a bed so you can enjoy and save your money for other consumers style, sometimes, for your toxic habits.

SO no, to me, it is not really realistic to say that. Doesn't mean you absolutely have to pay someone, they are options. It can be someone who work and do it as a hobbie on side lol but do'nt expect much either ...

Now "be your own shaman" is good, I too did both, ceremonies and self administration, but it can become for some very dangerous. For exemple you may freak out or have a bad interaction, or not know what you're doing. MAOI, or plants like Iboga and also secreiotns like Kambo and bufo have also a way to put you out of your comfort zone, which could even be dangerous for your life ( like stop breathing whndoing bufo secretions ). Then, you'd be safer with some experienced and ready to face emergency situations, and checking you out, person, that could be a profesional. That means again, living in the same global capitalist world as you do, will need retribution ( although eh / she may later refuse or give you big discount).

But for exemple, I have a good herbal cabinet and I like to share, but I invest alot also, and when someones ( who is always someone I do'nt realy know ) ask that all those herbs should be for free, and its usually poeple who havenothing to offer and just want freebies pretending ethics while there are not fair energy exchange.

I even been almost forced to ask somehting inexchange, cause for the person it didn't felt right to do it for "free" or just the cost of the medecine, and this person say, other wie you'll pay another way, like might be taxing on another level. Shocked

So there are also a lot of charlatan and its a shame its for many another business and ego fuelling practice ( like a trend everyone wants to be a healer ). SO I avoid expensive places usually, but I do'nt mind giving money and at times I even gave good tips on top cause I saw the therapeut was really living day to day, no home, and having to trust that everyday someone will be wlcoming.. otherwise it means you sleep outside and wait for meeting new poeple ( that was an itinerant therapeut with no home ).

I knowx ideally we should have everythig for free and just giving eavh other goods and service, but there are always abuses and Men do'nt seem mature enough in general to be trusted about that " free things for everyone".

I completely agree with you rOm! Thumbs up

Today I was fortunate enough to be able to have a quick phone conversation with a Nexus member who was gracious enough to give a little of his time and knowledge to help me out.

We had a brief conversation where I was able to ask him some questions. It is hard to express just how helpful this short conversation was.

I feel confident in the path to take now based on that conversation.

Everyone's advice on this thread has been deeply helpful. Also, the information I managed to gleam from the wider forum - And also the numerous videos, trip reports etc etc.

All of the information accrued so far allowed me to have a productive conversation that just filled the last gap before proceeding.

What was missing from my research? The best way I can describe it is - I was missing the human part. Maybe I am different - maybe this was just important to me?

To the Nexus member - thank you again for your time! I really appreciate it!

Bring a man a Shaman and he can journey for the day, show a man that he can be his own and he can journey for life.

I agree with the above sentiments "shaman" is a loaded concept here in the west.

Empathy is a powerful tool no matter the form it takes.

Good luck OP.

As others have said... If you rush out looking for a shaman, be careful you don't end up with a charlatan!

If you're looking for community, perhaps there are psychedelic conferences in Australia?

the term shaman is so widely diverse in context depending on the specific culture being referenced.

dont forget, it was miscommunication which prevented the first humans from reaching the full potential of the "God Head" so I find it valuable not to overemphasize or be overly hung up on terminologies.

that being said I do have a deep reverence for what we classically would call "Shamanism" and as such I dont call myself a shaman because im not trained in the ways of any "shamanic" lineage.

Try to be examined by a serious spirit healer for an "occupation" / "foreign influence". If available, such a "clearing" should not cost more than 200 dollars.

I am SO skeptical of all that. However, since I've started daily breakthroughs, several times now I've experienced what sure looked (literally) and felt like spirit entry. I expected aliens, not witches, sprites and fairies but my beliefs seem to matter not.

My theory is it's in relation to burning the spice, which at worst leaves me with an "I've just been damned" feeling. Fortunately this wears off in half an hour or so, though the shock to my sense of reality lasted a couple days the first time.

So in theory, what do these spirits do if left alone. How are they removed? And how do you find a reliable witchdoctor anyway?

Just been damned as in you feel your not right with yourself/God or just been damned because you think DMT opened you up to bad juju?

More the bad juju. Prior to psychedelics which began a few years ago I was an atheist, so in theory I was already damned, haha. Though a number of experiences I still wouldn't call myself "religious" but perhaps Gaian, Taoist, and to some extent Hindu.

However, about a month ago, I had the extremely vivid perception (3rd person vision and simultaneous) feeling of a little black cat like spirit looking at me from various corners of my ceiling then jumping into my spine as a cloud of black smoke. Out loud at the time I said "A spirit just entered me, that I didn't ask for, and we don't even believe in that!"

He seemed benign enough but that was just the beginning. A few days later taking DMT on a hilltop at sunrise I felt like I had really screwed up, I watched the earth die, myself die, and as I came too I felt I was pinned to the ground by what felt like a malevolent witches spell. It wore off in the right amount of time fortunately, it really made me question reality. In weeks that followed I had some great experiences as well, followed up by what felt like a wraith that damned my soul. I don't really believe in "evil" but more the Buddhist "unskilled" acts of ignorance, but this felt evil. Though interpreting it as a vampire sucking the life from me might be right too. It felt like I was going to be depressed forever, get fibromyalgia or chronic fatigue, and then to hell. Fortunately it wore off in about a half an hour. In between I had some regular (as far as DMT goes) and some "tricksy" fairies or sprites. The latter seemed to block my breakthrough into the outer world as DMT usually takes me, with the very real perception that the breakthrough went the other way and they were here in my room. Interestingly my DMT experience is fairly intensive with well over 100 breakthroughs prior to the recent strangeness, and I was one of those guys who just saw landscapes, almost never entities. Now it's like they have my address.

Each time I had a bad one, however I got the sensation, either heat on the back of my throat, or for the really bad one's what felt like a chemical burn on my lips. A web and nexus search revealing a lot of others reporting fairly horrid experiences with burnt DMT, DMT oxide or DMT resin. Here are the links I saved:

Since then my reading shifted from Hinduism, Yoga and Buddhism to Witchcraft, Folklore and Celtic Fairies. I'm still trying to remain scientific about this, but I may have to turn in my rationalist membership card. Subjectively I feel normal, I don't feel any spirits in me now, however I don't recall any of the one's that entered leaving either.

I advise you to do a healthy spiritual purging and make certain to invite good energy in after to fill the space. Dont allow fear to be weaponized against you. If you feel you cant do a spiritual purging alone ask a trusted friend to do one with you, personally i dont recommend people you dont know unless you feel you can truly trust them and be comfortable with them.

Calling a shaman a glorified trip sitter hits it on the nose for me. Although I feel that the shaman has more of a right to influence the trip because both people came into the trip with this dynamic known. What I mean by this is the trip sitter has his uses mainly keeping the trippers away from physical harm and sometimes trying to bring a person back to a coherent state when he feels the need. But a shaman might have more of a right to bring up stuff that will expand the trip into new territory because that's what the tripper wanted in the first place.
May wisdom permeate through your life.
