I think one item of interest is the brain blood flow scans. After treatment there was an increase in blood flow to certain areas of the brain such as the cerebellum (near the back of the skull) . From other studies (as the paper mentions) it is known that poor blood flow to these areas is associated with alcoholism.

Below are pictures of brain blood flow (perfusion) before and after psychedelics. Notice the increase in blood flow towards the back of the skull.
