Has anyone had any experiences with N,N,N-trimethyltryptamine (quaternary ammonium salt of methylated tryptamine) or know if it's safe/non-toxic? I've tried to research it but haven't been able to find any information on it other than the most basic chemical descriptions.

Thanks for any help

I dont think the Nexus would promote the use or the spread of complete chemical synthesis routes.

Therefore don't expect to get a real answer. But to say some stuff to the mixture: Of course it would depend on what alkylating agent you use to get tertiary amines or not. But IF you would have them I guess you could easily separate them from the mixture as they might be somehow water soluble. Even if they would be active they should be avoided if going the smoking way as they shouldn't evaporate at ~ 160 °C.

Oh ok, I apologize I misunderstood forum rules. I figured only those who already had the knowledge/understanding of the synthesis already would be able to follow what I wrote. I'm happy to remove any mention of it and just leave my question about N,N,N-trimethyltryptamine safety

its toxic, and its decomposition products when burned are toxic

If the synthesis is using dangerous or watched chems, indeed we don't want to discuss here. If one would discuss a synthesis that was with safe and unwatched chems, my understanding is that it could be done, sort of like harmaline->thh synth featured in some threads.

Regarding a generic "will I have X or Y contamination in my product". it is highly recommended to always test one's product. TLC is simple and could probably help you in this specific case.

In the description I didn't actually mention any specific chemicals that would be used but did describe the general chemical technique used. However, if one of the byproducts is toxic, as Mindlusion said, it's not worth reposting or discussion the method. I will likely perform a TLC just to test it, but don't really have any interest in ingesting something that may have toxic contamination.
Thanks for the help though!

Are you able to elaborate moar on the mechanisms?

My understanding was that it's not psychoactive due to being too large to cross the BBB, but it is found in many fruits, albeit in very small amounts, and possibly could posses antioxidant properties.

Also, what about trimethylserotonin?

As a molecule, quaternary salts are surfactants that can disrupt cell membranes and tissues, and they can also act cholinergic nerve toxins.

im speaking generally in terms quaternary salts, they aren't all toxic, choline is one specifically. Dose is the poison like they say. N,N,N Trimethyl tryptamine isn't going to be as toxic as say tetramethylammonium, just based on size and its ability to permeate membranes. But its important to pay attention to the counter ion as well.

As a salt, it will possess the counter ion of whatever alkylating agent was used. So im guessing iodide. Heating the salt can decompose back to the methylating reagent itself, which is a potent carcinogen.

Just an observation illustrating the above - injection of trimethyltryptamine iodide into a gcms, gives a nice single peak of dmt. Likely decomposition in the injection port.
I'm not saying that dmt is the only thermal decomposition product of trimethyltryptamine iodide, but it certainly is present. Obviously the accompanying product is methyl iodide - carcinogenic, like most methylating agents.
