I'm yet to have tried DMT and I'm hoping to do so soon. I have a friend who currently has some and we're setting up a trip soon. He's used the DMT multiple times and has successfully broken through once so I'm pretty certain the stuff is DMT, I'm just a little sceptical on the quality of it. I've done LSD multiple times now and before I tried LSD I went on a bit of a research bend to find out any safety protocol for it and that worked out well so I'm doing the same for this. I want to make sure this stuff is safe however something my friend mentioned has caught my concern.

My main concern is that he describes a headache. He's told me that when taking it to expect my head to hurt straight away. When I asked him if it's like a headache he replied "yes but a bit more intense". He says it fades so this isn't a persistent thing, it supposedly ends midway during the trip. I've been looking all over the joint for something similar to this and I can't find any mention of people saying they're having headache-like qualities on come-up or during the trip as a normal thing.

I understand that the colour isn't a great way of indicating impurities or contaminants but in relation to the headache-like symptom I thought perhaps lye contamination could be causing this. The colour of the DMT is brown and and he describes the smoke as harsh and that it tastes bad. I've read that DMT is notoriously harsh to smoke so I didn't necessarily think anything of this but I didn't know what to think about the taste part. I've read DMT often smells like rubber or new shoes and so I asked him the smell of it which he said he wasn't really too sure about but could probably be considered as smelling like "chemicals".

Any clarification or thoughts on the quality of this DMT would be thoroughly appreciated.

I would not consumes anything suspect. Learn what you can about DMT, and do what you can to verify that this is, in fact, DMT. If poor quality, perhaps a r-ex could help.

Or... create your own! You are in the perfect place to learn how right here!

Use a test kit. I'm suspicious of it being brown. I too am a DMT noob, but from what I've read, it should be either white to pinkish. New and pure DMT would be white, it turns pinkish as it oxidizes, but that does not affect its purity or potency.

newbiespiceguy - do not use that dangerous rubbish your friend has.

As DmnStr8 says, this is the right place to find out how to create your own. It is not worth risking your health and well-being trying to 'get high' from an unknown substance of dubious purity.

Also, it's entirely possible that your friend has been burning the material due to poor vaporisation technique.

New and pure DMT can also be slightly yellowish.

The smell of brownish DMT should resemble that of mothballs, if that means anything to you. Very pure DMT is almost odourless, with a sweet floral smell. Delicious!

“There is a way of manipulating matter and energy so as to produce what modern scientists call 'a field of force'. The field acts on the observer and puts him in a privileged position vis-à-vis the universe. From this position he has access to the realities which are ordinarily hidden from us by time and space, matter and energy. This is what we call the Great Work."

For what it's worth, my DMT is crystal white, I've extracted it myself, it has the regular smell, and lately I have experienced a headache when consuming it; as your friend described, only at the beginning, and only on sub-breakthrough doses. It completely disappears a few minutes into the trip, and is absolutely not persistent afterwards (I get the usual afterglow, and feel very nice). It doesn't worry me unduly.

With that being said, the brown color is indeed weird. As for the harsh smoke and the bad smell, he almost certainly combusts it instead of vaping it properly (and burnt DMT smells like literal feces - to me at least). Note that DMT, vaped properly, isn't harsh to "smoke" at all - it's pretty smooth.

Appreciate the advice everyone, I think I shall look to make my own just to be safe.
