Date of Trip: 01/08/2019
Substance: Amanita pantherina Dose: Skin of one large mushroom
We scraped the skin off the cap to smoke, but it was too wet, so I decided to eat it. Just a couple minutes after ingestion, I began to experience a pleasant drunkenness sensation which was quickly escalating. My friends and I were tired after a long day of mushroom hunting. We went upstairs so I could take a Benadryl to counteract any potential negative muscarinic effects, and while we were upstairs, I explained that I could see mysterious threads in the air that told me that I was important, and were trying to deliver a secret message. I felt extremely energized, to the point of mania.
We went downstairs in the backyard to smoke a cigarette, and while I was smoking, I felt extremely intoxicated. I closed my eyes and saw a vision of the Virgin Mary, who has been with me throughout my life. She said to me: “You know what you were set out on this earth to do.” I was so excited by this vision, and I told both of my friends. And I kept repeating it over and over to ascertain the meaning.
The sound of my friend’s neighbor revving up his car was upsetting me a lot, and the music my friend was playing was making me uncomfortable. I led the way upstairs so I could lay down on the couch. I called my best friend, and he was comforting me. I felt a lot better after laying down. After laying down and listening to music for a while, I decided the visionary effects were over and I could go home. I got in an uber, and when I got home I walked the dog and then quickly headed for bed. I was so tired.
At around 9:00 pm my brother woke me up, and to my surprise the visionary effects were not over. The effects had been transformed. I was very light on my body as I walked, and I could see psychedelic psilocybin-like patterns of eyeballs and mushrooms over everything. I went out to smoke. When I came back, I decided instead of going back to bed to listen to some classical music. I put on Olivier Messiaen’s Vingt Regards sur le Enfant Jesus. I fell asleep and woke up again to those same patterns. I decided just to turn the music off and go to sleep. Overall it was a very enjoyable experience!

Great experience! How would you rate the nausea from 1 to 10? I'm living where amanitas are very frequent, so maybe I should go hunting and explore their realm.

Maybe it made me a little more tired, but I believe it is the reason why I experienced literally no negative side effects like nausea or sweating. I also believe that the best way to go with this mushroom is to scrape out the gills, as most of the psychedelic compound is in the meat of the caps and the skin.

If you decide to hunt Amanitas (which you should because they are a great visionary substance), then scrape out the gills and take a Benadryl with it. That produces the best effects with no side effects. Don't eat the stem.

Hm I wonder if a Datura seed or two could be used in place of the Benadryl. Given how dangerous and unpleasant atropine and scopolamine containing plants are in psychedelic doses, it wouldn't surprise me if their central role in European spiritual traditions were as admixtures in Amanita journeys. Anyway, pretty cool trip. That said, for the sake of those who come after, eating Amanitas raw is just plain wrong and nobody should do it. Bake the things at least. You want the ibotenic acid decarbed. It will make it more psychedelic, and less poisonous. That's not one, but two reasons to do it. Do you believe in the THIRD SUMMER OF LOVE?

Yes, I considered using some flying ointment I made, but decided against it because Benadryl is more predictable. I believe there are some grimoires that call for Amanita muscaria to be used in flying ointments.

pantherina should be low in muscarine you can dry and decarboxylate them in the future but don't know how this would affect the effects always tried dry&decarbd ones (muscaria) and there was no problem with muscaria which is higher in muscarine to an amount of 4 medium caps! (no further testing yet) crazy trip by the way, was it something you distinctly experienced or something dreamlike and more subtile? It's the job that's never started as takes longest to finish. - J.R.R. Tolkien
How long will this last, this delicious feeling of being alive, of having penetrated the veil which hides beauty and the wonders of celestial vistas? It doesn't matter, as there can be nothing but gratitude for even a glimpse of what exists for those who can become open to it. - Alexander Shulgin
