But another year has passed and I’m finding myself back into looking into psychedelics. I’ve never done any other psychedelic than mushrooms or LSD. I wonder what I might try. Maybe I should try another kind of mushroom; or are they all alike? Or maybe yet another method of preparation. Like an MAOI with a low dose of mushrooms.[/b]
Mushrooms are not all alike - it sounds like whatever source you had before was of a variety that really agreed with you, while for whatever reason this type did not. If you bought a grow box kit, you might not know what strain you ended up with, though surely it was some type of cubensis. I have experienced 5 different strains of cubensis, and each had some differences in effects, including levels of physical discomfort. I suggest trying again by growing from spores of a known strain, research the different strains. Effects will vary by individual, so this isn't cut and dry, but you can notice themes.
Another thought - and this is just a shot in the dark - is that you didn't get your dose right. This is simply my experience, so take it with a grain of salt, but I find with mushrooms that if you are going to get negative physical effects, they become more pronounced at a moderate level of experience. In other words, if you take a low dose, maybe you won't have an intense experience, but the physical sensations won't be strong enough to bother you. If you take a higher dose, you might experience intense sensations especially during the come up, but for me personally anyway, I find it's easier to transcend those feelings at higher doses. Often the negative feelings come from resisting the come-up, and higher doses make it easier to surrender. But at a moderate dose, I find it's possible to get kind of "stuck" dealing with negative physical sensations that are strong enough to detract from the trip, while simultaneously not tripping intensely enough to leave awareness of the body behind. This is a very awkward place to be in when it happens. I'm not saying this means you should rush out and take a huge dose, but maybe the opposite - take a lower dose and see if it feels better (even if you do not trip hard), and then experiment from there. Mushrooms can vary wildly in potency, so even if you took the dose that was perfect for you previously, doesn't mean it will be perfect for you with the mushrooms you have now.
And I also want to echo that tea works wonders. I personally add ginger to the tea and find it does help, in addition to complimenting the flavor. Filtering out the mushroom material after making the tea is important if you really want to do the most you can to avoid nausea, then drinking the tea slowly (over at least 1/2 an hour) to avoid getting hit by a freight train during the come-up. You can also take a dramamine or two a half an hour before the tea. Make sure you haven't eaten anything in at least 5 hours, and that you've eaten only relatively healthy food earlier in the day - what's in your body at the time can generate its own feelings, either of wholesomeness or unwellness. I have had good success avoiding most major physical discomfort by following these guidelines.
