I'm going to have to say Trichocereus peruvianus due to the long spines, but they appear to still be near the seedling stage. WARNING: DO NOT INGEST ANY BOTANICAL WHICH YOU HAVE NOT FULLY RESEARCHED AND CORRECTLY IDENTIFIED!!!I am Teotzlcoatl, older cousin of Quetzalcoatl. cuzco? hybrid? As a kemist I never met ILPT in physical form and never talk to him. He share his wisdom, trough my mind, telepathicly only. Please don`t prosecute me, for his possible illegal activities. He is bonkers about chemistry and doesn`t even exist in this primitive reality !!!

It does look like one of these (Trichocereus cuzcoensis): http://www.shaman-australis.com/~visionarycacti/Files/T/Trichocereus%20cuzcoensis/Trichocereus%20cuzcoensis.htm It's quite fun to get to know the different kinds of cactus a bit although it's very hard at times. We need to compile a good 'manual' for Cactus identification. Kind regards, The Traveler

Kind regards, The Traveler There was this thread http://www.dmt-nexus.me/....aspx?g=posts&t=6935 where Coatl had undertaken the task of compiling some characteristics for identification, but the thread was forgotten and it never turned to be something with serious and reliable information... It's funny that they were sold as two different cacti...the first pic is supposed to be a peruvianus and the second pachanoi. 2 possibilities: 1 vendor thinks i'm stupid 2 vendor is stupid guess id'ing cacti is very subjective...

I think that many id-ing properties can be very subjective. And I think it's pretty hard to nail them all down, I'm still an awful amateur with this. Kind regards, The Traveler

The 2nd one does look a little bit like pachanoi... WARNING: DO NOT INGEST ANY BOTANICAL WHICH YOU HAVE NOT FULLY RESEARCHED AND CORRECTLY IDENTIFIED!!!I am Teotzlcoatl, older cousin of Quetzalcoatl. I've noticed that the taxonomy of these kinds of cacti is a mess. After reading trouts notes it seems even the 'experts' don't know whats going on. A chemotaxonomic study would clear a lot of this stuff up.
But yea first one looks like peruviana and the second pachoni. Could be hybrids though who knows.

so i took some new pics of the same two cacti, and it's very interesting to see that changing angle and using flashlight makes both cacti look slightly different. But like burnt says, who knows? Could the second one be a real pachanoi???? teotenakeltje attached the following image(s): Bild 006.jpg (1,380kb) downloaded 44 time(s). Bild 004.jpg (1,223kb) downloaded 44 time(s).

I second that; the more I read (mostly internet sources) about their taxonomy the more I come to believe that some cacti are just variations of the same theme. I am not too much about chemotaxonomy but DNA taxonomy instead where one can see differences in the greatest detail. And DNA taxonomy is the golden standard today. Too bad that there are no DNA barcode sequences for peruvianus, bridgesii, pachanoi, cuzcoensis and macrogonus. Need to calculate between salts and freebases? Click here!
